Punishments for violating the rules

If we think you're doing something wrong, we'll warn you first. If you persist, however, we will continue with these steps:

Violation 1: Temporary ban (five days) from the forum and a ban from the trouble area until further notice.

Violation 2: Longer ban (thirty days) from the forum, and a permanent ban from the trouble area.

Violation 3: Permanent ban from the forum.

Ah, the three strike system. I would disagree with this "perma ban from the trouble" area thing.

personally, I see two situations arising from this whole system.

1) A dick member runs through each of the steps very quickly, and we KNOW he's going to do so after violation 1.

2) A good natured member who is maybe a bit socially inept goes through them slowly, and we never really want to permanently ban him because he's a decent guy. Unfortunately, IT'S DA RULES!

For #1, he/she *won't* be able to go through them quickly. Would have to wait five days after the first ban, and thirty after the second. Plenty of time to prepare and tell the other mods what happened.

For #2, I don't think that a "nice but socially inept person" would really be able to get to step two; first we'd be warning them, and then they'd have five days to cool off. If, after step one, they can show us that they won't be causing trouble in the given area, we'll lift the ban.

I think the difference lies in the intent. A dick member, as you said, would probably run through them quickly with the intent of causing as many problems as possible, and should be dealt with. A good natured member who is actually trying to be a productive member can be allowed a little leeway (as long as they really are making an honest attempt to get better).

Hmm, I actually thought this was in the mod forum, thus my discussion of it. My bad. If it is implemented policy, I will support it.
