Marsco, in the creative writing department, sent us this link. I suggest we tinker around with it, it's written in C I think, and still uses Allegro. Tell us what ya find.

(edit)I've been trying to run the program, but it sure is buggy for me, anyone else have a problem with it?

I've yet to even glance at it. I'll take a cursory look when I have time this evening, and do a more in-depth inspection on Friday or Saturday. Thursday is looking busy for me.

The program crashes for me whenever I select Arcade or Versus, but not Exit or Options. I haven't checked other modes.

My guess is that the program doesn't have associated files: characters, stages, sprites, backgrounds, etc. All I see in the main directory is kof91.exe, kof91.log and alleg41.dll.
