Nope, I'm pretty sure the point that you're still entirely responsible for what you do is entirely valid.

I guess you missed the part where the "whole story" was available on pages 1 - 5 of this thread.

Not the whole story.

Learn to read.

Good day.

1: Maulkin: Seriously, the rank/pic alteration was little more than escalating a bad situation. Anything that came after that point simply should not be counted against Nevrmore, because you'd set a tone for what was acceptable. To be perfectly blunt, you owe him an apology. "With great power..." yadda yadda yadda. That you have an established procedure now doesn't absolve you of misdeeds before.

2: Okay, so this whole argument really was over whether French or German was the better language? And people were getting so heated about it that someone cried? Sorry, but at this point, the whole thing has moved into that category of the internet commonly known as "Teh Drama". If you're going to engage in debate on the Web, you need at least something resembling thicker skin.

3: Razor: No, I wasn't involved in this incident. However, I was targeted by Nevrmore when I first started using the Keenforum for DD, and he was just as scathing then. I got over it, and was able to find the value of his comments as time went on. Now, the fact that he's been locked out of the chatbox (again, as noted even by himself, this seems to be a format that brings out his worst and stifles his best) should be adequate. And Razor, if we don't have the 'full story' by this point, that's the "prosecution's" fault, since, y'know, you've all had plenty of opportunity to make the case.

So, let's see. You're saying that you don't understand why there're quotes around "whole story" and it's okay for mods to make judgments based on partial information but it's not okay for peons to do the same?

Hm. Gestapotastic.

Edit: Hi, LadyMacPuck.

Edit edit: Shit! Godwin's principle.

1) It was. I never disagreed with that. I'd lobbied for removal.

2) It wasn't over that, that's just what LP's saying and I'm trying to say that he's wrong.

3) Sorry, Java and I had both believed that the Chatbox Archive would save things further back than 40 minutes. In any case, that doesn't change that he mocked and provoked forum members and admins. He's not perma-banned, but just tossing it all out the window will be counter-productive.

Can we please PLEASE just stop up about all of this already? PLEASE!?! I'm sick of trying to explain to people why this had to be done from personal experience with similar circumstances.

Take the initiative. You have the power and the responsibility to not engage in any activity you deem meaningless or harmful.

WHICH IS THE POINT OF THE WHOLE EPISODE, not that some people are assholes or that German sucks (which it does.)

Edit: Although, to be fair, you haven't actually "explained why this had to be done out of personal experience." You've just used the phrase over and over again, sometimes followed by massive generalizations that have nothing to do with any kind of specific memory or event.

Have you considered a job with the current administration?

This is likely the most levelheaded thing I'm going to read in this thread.

Of course, I am notoriously reasonable when I'm playing Devil's Advocate. :)

I tried that myself. Didn't work out so well.

The problem is, you haven't really shown any evidence to the contrary. You seem to want this done on little more than your say-so.

"Mocked and provoked", yes. But I didn't see any real line-crossing in the portions that were quoted. You claim that there was, but can't seem to bring yourself to actually state what was said.

As others noted, this conversation only exists because of the pro-ban side's wishes. The ability to 'stop' it thus rests squarely on your shoulders.

I have already stated why I did what I did, and in retrospect, yes, it was a bad move. However, he still wasn’t taking the threat of punishment seriously at all.

And, here’s the clincher: I, unlike Nevrmore, admitted that I made a mistake and said that I won’t be doing that again. I, unlike Nevrmore, did not do it to be mean or petty (I was hoping it would get him to stop, if people were going to snicker at his rank). And I was taking this seriously through the entire thing; even before the punishment, he kept on goofing off and making sarcastic comments.

So no; the “Dick” rank did not have a significant impact on this. He was goofing off before, and he kept goofing off after.

Oh, and I'm closing the topic at the end of the day. If anyone wants to make their testamony, you better do it soon.

One last thing: LP, you are obviously from the Keenspot forums, and have no interest whatsoever for becoming a part of this forum. At best, you came here because Nevrmore was complaining on the other forum, and have been predisposed to think he was innocent. At worst, you thought it would be amusing to stir shit up. In either case, you have no place in this discussion.

Oh, come now, don't be so uptight. If anyone here hasn't learned that the internet is not to be taken seriously yet, it's their own fault, not the fault of harmless pranksters.
