If you have to ban him, see if you can ban him just from the chat, which seems to bring out the worst of his personality. |
Hmmm... that could be a good idea. Who will enforce the ban, though??? _________________

| Hmmm... what if we have everyone monitor him? Just PM one of us with the chat log, and we'll follow through with the punishment? _________________

I do not like this.
I do not like this AT ALL.
Nevrmore's a dick, but bannings due to "feelings hurt" bode very, very unwell for any forum. |

| I'm a bit late, but I'm throwing in my vote for a perm-ban. As I've said before Maulkin: if one member in particular is hated by a majority of the members of the forum, then ban them. Even if they've "technically" done nothing wrong. _________________ "Bears have penises. They can stick it in butts." ~LS |

This is a dangerous way to think. Although now we arguably have a legitimate reason for a permanent ban, if this trend continued, there is a good chance admins would just start abusing their banning power.
Personally, I feel as though if it hasn't been done, there should be a set of rules set up surrounding banning, and maybe even a couple forum members be given a title - like Lawyer/Attorney General - who are excessively familiar with the rules and could help people if need be and also make/maintain forum policy surrounding banning.
I have always thought of us as a rather tight community, and I think it is important that we not fall into too many internet clichés. _________________

| Fuck, there goes my 3 paragraph response -_-
Short version: I completely, but respectfully, disagree with you Mathias. I know from experience that a strict rule-set is easily abused by trolls who dance around the line. And I've seen first hand the mental anguish that a close friend of mine went through when his community was torn asunder by such trolls. If you allow people to stay because they aren't breaking the rules, then everybody who actually cares about the comunity is eventually going to leave because they don't want to put up with the bullshit. No matter how much they love the forum in question.
Obviously mob-rule needs to be avoided. If this entire forum was conservative, and hated Matt for being a liberal, then it would be unethical of Maulkin to ban him based on that. _________________ "Bears have penises. They can stick it in butts." ~LS |
