besides you and Java know who I am, Maulkin.
[11:38:30] @ Maulkin : ?
[11:38:32] SuperDrops : Razor: How about throwing My chainsaw in the air above my enemy, where it multiplies tenfold and the ten copies cut up the enemy in a random flight pattern?
[11:38:36] Razor : All you can do is go by witnesses, which would be me, Java, Drops, Kas, and Dotty...*sigh*
[11:38:43] @ JavaJesus : Puck knows who you are, since she used to be LadyMacbeth over on keen
[11:38:47] @ Maulkin : And who are you, Nevrmore?
[11:38:58] Razor : Drops: That would be a combo. Like, say, Iron Raptor Technique + Peony Blossom Attack
[11:39:03] Kasai : and Faolan
[11:39:03] Nevrmore : O yeah, Puck'll put in a good word for me, I think
[11:39:12] Kasai : Faolan was here when he was being an ass to us
[11:39:18] Razor : Oh yeah, Fao was here.
[11:39:19] Kasai : and links was but links was being an ass to
[11:39:37] Nevrmore : Oh damn, Fao's an admin? I was being a huge dick to him and Kass earlier. Good times.
[11:39:59] Kasai : no hes not
[11:40:06] Kasai : *kas
[11:40:18] Nevrmore : Whatever.
[11:40:24] Kasai : see Maully, he admits it
[11:40:27] Kasai : ban his ass
[11:40:29] Nevrmore : How many admins are there?
[11:40:34] @ JavaJesus : Maul, I sent you a pm of what I had of the chat when I got back from lunch
[11:40:52] SuperDrops : Razor: Hm... I want to find something you can't draw out of your hat!
[11:41:10] Razor : Good luck...
[11:41:32] Nevrmore : Nah, I'm not as much of a douche on the forums. Chatbox is easier, instant gratification
[11:42:10] SuperDrops : Razor: Pulling someones skeletion out trough his mouth?
[11:42:30] Nevrmore : Dude, Kano does that
[11:42:33] Nevrmore : Not original
[11:43:17] Razor : Sounds along the same lines as Ravishing the Unworthy Heart, where you pluck their heart from their chest then crush it. Probably a high-end Martial Arts charm for Abyssals...would have to be custom though.
[11:43:39] Kasai : ...
[11:44:04] Nevrmore : I should have voted "Yes, permanent ban"
[11:44:06] Nevrmore : just to be funny
[11:44:21] Nevrmore : I wonder if I can change my vote
[11:45:06] SuperDrops : Razor: This is hard...
[11:45:14] Razor : I know!
[11:45:18] Nevrmore : Maulkin get back to me on that
[11:46:34] Nevrmore : This is important to me
[11:47:16] Kasai : hmm...
[11:47:23] Kasai : chatbox isnt working right for me
[11:47:58] Nevrmore : Try refreshing!
[11:48:34] SuperDrops : Razor: Cut someone but delay the injury so that he dies when I want him too? Say, Spurting with a thousand little cuts I enflicted in the morning at dinner?
[11:49:30] Nevrmore : Maulkin still missed the meat of the log
[11:49:31] Nevrmore : O well
[11:51:01] Razor : I think that's an Abyssal charm, actually, but I'm not too familiar with them. I believe there's a martial arts charm that can do that too, but I don't remember what style.
[11:51:30] Razor : Definately a viable charm, considering Abyssals are capable of cleaving souls in twain.
[11:52:12] Nevrmore : Hey Fritz
[11:52:14] SuperDrops : HEy Fritz!

[11:52:16] Nevrmore : Make sure you don't miss that vote
[11:52:28] MissFritz :
[11:52:40] @ JavaJesus : hi Fritzy
[11:52:42] SuperDrops : Razor: I feel incapable to think of something you have no answer too.
[11:52:51] Nevrmore : Also Maulkin if it makes you feel any better, your avvie's shit-stache could look nice if you grew it out a little. It's a transitional period, I understand
[11:52:53] MissFritz : hey Java!
[11:53:16] @ Maulkin : No, you cannot change your vote.
[11:53:26] Nevrmore : Awww
[11:53:33] Nevrmore : Oh well
[11:53:54] Kasai huggle Fritzy
[11:54:08] MissFritz : sldjfhs! Kas changed her name again?
[11:54:34] Razor : Huh?
[11:54:50] Razor : Drops: Well, that's the nature of Exalted.
[11:54:54] @ Maulkin : Hmmm... Nevrmore obviously isn't taking this seriously, and even said that I "missed the meat of it" when I posted the chat logs.
[11:54:58] Razor : ...yes, you can.
[11:55:11] Kasai : ya >.>
[11:55:38] MissFritz : <__< I have no idea what's going on but I don't think it'd be worth asking
[11:55:46] Nevrmore : That's because I don't think I'll be banned
[11:55:59] @ Maulkin : Well, you'd be wrong.
[11:56:11] Nevrmore : I didn't know admin powers extended to reading the future
[11:56:38] Kasai : they do
[11:56:40] @ Maulkin : Okay guys, I put this off long enough. I'm banning him. He's clearly a problem to this forum, and has thoroughly proved this to me.

I waded through most of the above chatlog, but I am not sure entirely what issues I see.

I mean, psychologically the internet gives everyone a safe sense of anonymity, thus leading to mild amounts of flaming, or saying things we normally wouldn't. Heck, I am guilty of being biting and caustic in the chatbox all the time.

Yes, he did directly attack some people. Yes, he was inane and profane. But I am not entirely sure how this is different from the rest of the internet.

He clearly stated that I "missed the meat of it". That was backed up by Kas and Razor, and probably others if I asked them.

As I mentioned (and it was lost in the flood of text), this is the tip of the iceberg. This was going on for a couple of hours before this log started, and he cooled off a bit after Java showed up...then Maul.

Alright. I'll assume for that since there are so many eye-witnesses, a LOT of bad things happened that were not captured in the logs. Under what pretense would you be banning him?

Use of profanity?
-Shit, I think we are guilty of that one.
Insulting other users?
-Everyone does this in various degrees, although from the looks of things his was somewhat... OK, greatly excessive. But still and all unless this guy was degrading people to tears, I am not sure this alone would be enough to ban the guy.
Improper use of chat-box?
-Then what IS the proper use of the chat-box? As far as I can tell it is basically a sample real-time randomness, kinda like the forum itself, but, not as lagged.
Keep order?
-This is the most dangerous one, because if this is your real reason, then it is only a matter of time before we become a little e-click that bans people who do not properly "fit in."
Breach of stated forum rules?
-This is the best case scenario. If you can produce a rule somewhere that he broke that is sufficiently important enough that it could result in his ban, then I would be forced to agree with you.

He was insulting other users to tears, but I'm not naming names.

And, he was being a major dick. Even if he "cooled off" by the time I got on.

He stated a great desire to irritate people, troll, and generally be an asshole. I'd say that's enough right there. We don't need people hanging around here who are only here to cause grief.

Okay, after discussing it with others, I've decided to reduce his permanent ban to a temporary one. He's banned for five days, including today.

Note: I sent the following message to his email:

If you persist in being a dick, however, it will be permanent.

This seems like a fair, and even-handed decision. If he does it again, by all means, unleash the as much firey e-wrath as you can conjure. Until then, it can be assumed that this level of dickery was an outlier.

Just remember guys,

KEEP LOGS OF EVIDENCE

I can't be around 24/7.

Oh, and I don't want any retaliation next time. If he starts being a dick, just ignore him.

I know I'm a bit late to this discussion. Given the evidence, you'd well within your rights to enforce a permanent ban. The reasons are mainly because Nevrmore knew he was being a dick, and seemed to revel in that fact. A person who tries like hell to be a troll and is proud of it when you call him on it is not really the kind of person you need in a friendly, online community. Sure, we may not always get along here, but the majority of users don't make it their personal goal to be assholes and upset the other users.

Of course, the final choice lies with the mods/admins/Board Gods and I'm willing to bet your community would back your decisions so long as they were reasonable. :)

I'll be honest--in the portion that was actually posted, I didn't see anything warranting an actual ban, nor is Nevrmore a true troll (he generally participates in Forum discussions about as reasonably as anyone else, and better than some). If you have to ban him, see if you can ban him just from the chat, which seems to bring out the worst of his personality.
