| | DD: The Musical has been in my head for a while. Probably since the first appearance of Donovan at the very least, if not further back. |

Welcome to the forum!
Now that the pleasantries are aside... Did anyone else notice the slight homage to Pirates of the Caribbean that spark made?
I bet the wolves wouldn't just munch on something sentient sans good reason. Heck, there might be another foreign law or culture quirk I could post involving that.
Shameless plug: Go check out the thread, "Law and Order, DD Version" and toss in your two bits. _________________

| Wolves are intelligent, sensible creatures. Of course they wouldnīt eat a talking cat belonging to their passengers. In fact, I donīt think they would eat any cat, it not to avoid starvation to death. _________________

| Swabby Spark's seasickness smacks of spiffiness. ^_^ Maybe after this he'll give up the lame pirate jokes. He''s needed new material for a while now.
I really like this new, non-emo Nimmel. He could become one of my favorite characters if he stays this good-natured.
I do have to wonder what Dom's issue is this time. I suppose it'd be too much to hope for that he still feels guilty about the Snowsong thing. Normally I'm totally on board with the "Dominic is cool" thing, but he needs to suffer a little for that, especially if it's self-inflicted. I'm not suggesting that he start cutting himself and crying in corners, but a little "I f**ked up big time" brooding is perfectly healthy.
I really like what I'm seeing of Winter Archipelago culture so far. Much as I hate the cold, I think sailing & spellcasting werewolves is a really nifty idea. ^_^ |

| I think what's bugging Dom is that he knows he probably has some splainin to do to Jayden and Milov about Siggy being a gimp in hell.

...And another furry joins the forum. Seriously, do I have a mystic aura that unknowingly attracts furries???
Edit: Though, I can honestly say I enjoyed this strip for several reasons, not the least of which is the fact that a bunch of male furries are running around without shirts on =P _________________

| Hrm...
Oddly, I think this strip explains something, too.
Namely, the law against teleportation isn't quite as... foolish as one might think, if the "Water Wolves" (c'mon, it shoulda been "Sea Wolves", at least, for drama's sake--these guys need a lesson from Donovan) are the sole legal sailing company within the waters of the Winter Archipelago, then the no-teleport rule gives them an effective monopoly in travel to and from the islands; taxes from said monopoly are probably a significant source of income to the werewolf (clans? tribes? families?). This is especially true if the Archipelego has a high concentration of a rare resource--controlling the shipping as well as the source of the valued item is a great way to extend the monopoly (much like Standard Oil used to do with railroads back in the day).
And the whole 'territorial' bit? Probably true to an extent, but while 'work-arounds' might be plausible, it would also be a good way to override objections from Callan and other nations wanting freer trade:
*****
Werewolf Ambassador: "I appreciate the difficulty you express, but really, it's for your own good. Werewolves have a strong territorial instinct, and if someone enters our territory too suddenly, they can provoke a very violent reaction."
Callan Ambassador: "But surely, some sort of 'neutral zone' drop-spot could be set to--"
WA: "Nope, sorry, too territorial."
CA: "Well then, how about if we--"
WA: "Territorial."
CA: "Surely, we can come to some reasonable acco--"
WA: [Shifts into hybrid form, looming over CA] "I'm beginning to think you're failing to understand the meaning of the term 'violent reaction', Ambassador."
CA: "Ah, so you're territorial. Got it. I'll tell the king."
*******
It's non-canon, but I'm including that explanation in my head from now on, as it makes sense, doesn't violate canon, and accounts for the odd law. |

| Well, as far as we've been shown, teleportation is limited to people and small goods. And seeing as not everyone is zipping around instantly, I'm guessing it takes a degree of training and talent to do it.
I know it's stupid to argue with canon. I feel stupid for arguing how stupid this is. So I've come up with my own compromise. Werewolves are stupid, and will die out thanks to Darwinism.
The End. |
