Time to play a little game. ^_^

If you've never done a Death Pool before, here's how it works: You pick the five Deeganverse characters you think are most likely to die in 2008 and number them 1-5, with 5 being the one you think is MOST likely to die, and 1 being the one you think is the LEAST likely to die. Whenever a character croaks, you get points equal to the number you gave that character, and whoever has the most points at the end of 2008 wins.

Sound like fun?

With that, here's my selections:

5 - Miranda Deegan
She really doesn't serve any purpose to the story other than to be a walking deus ex machina. Mookie's already showing us signs that she's weakening. She's already picked her successor, and best of all there's a very, very angry Infernomancer out there who has a bit of a tendency to hold a grudge. Miranda's going to die valiantly protecting her school from TIM, and this will rally basically everyone together to whup on the Infernomancer's ass... even Jacob will (temporarily) fight on the good guys side against the guy who killed his mother. This will lead into a fight between Siggy and TIM, which in turn will lead into a Hell Vs. Earth War arc. See, y'all know Karnak isn't going to be happy JUST being king of Hell, right? :)

4 - Runcible Spoon
He's impulsive, hot-headed, and he's just been denied the Headmaster's job. So you KNOW he's going to do something stupid. Possibly something resulting in Cthuspoon.

3 - Hansi Reinholdt
His sudden appearance on the scene is too perfect. He's lost his rank, he doesn't want to join the Battlecasters, and his job as Cass' boy toy is going to get old to readers real quick.

2 - Donovan Deegan
After his wife dies, it will be too perfect for Donovan to settle the long-standing score by slugging it out with Karnak.

1 - Melna Durnaxe
It's only a matter of time before HUK THAK Awesome

appears... maybe he will finish the job he's been foretold for so long.

5. TIM: He's back after a long, long while. And we all know that there isn't much chance of redemption for our darling Infernomancer. If it comes to a final showdown, I'm pretty sure at the very end he's going to end up dead. His popularity with the fans may mean that he only "dies", but ultimately, it's not likely that the Infernomancer is going to last.

4. Prento: The student most similar to Dominic, I'd say. I would have liked to put down all Dominic's students, but that's probably against the rules to have a lot of people on one number, so Prento's the one I'd have my money on. With the Infernomancer coming back, or Karnak hanging around, I wouldn't put it past either of them to attack Dominic's students as a way of getting to him. Having Prento die would make Dominic angst, to.

3. Neilen: After some funky experiments by Jacob, as well as the general feeling of distaste towards him in the comic, I think Neilen's going to die in the next arc he appears, if he isn't dead already. Frankly, as much as I like Neilen, I do think he's going to die pretty soon just to blacken Jacob further and show that Dominic isn't as powerful as he thinks he is.

2. Serk Brakkis: I anticipate he'll appear at the start of an arc, only to be killed by some random badguy to show how evil they are. He's expendable. And I'm ignoring the fact that he's in prison, because we know that most of the time the badguys in the comic get what's coming to them.

1. Celesto: Okay, I put this last because if it actually happened I would be very, very irritated. But I think there's a fair chance that Celesto's going to be doing the wrong thing, right up until the last moment where he finally does make the right choice, and it gets him killed. We've seen dramatic irony like this before, and with a character like Celesto, I think it's more likely.

Does the list have to be in any specific order (i.e. leas likely to most?) or can I just tack up five names I predict will die?

Also, a lot of characters in this story would be difficult to kill, TIM being the least of them. (Being the ONLY infernomancer left, coupled with the stolen power of a demon lord. Ehhh... my money's on whoever's stupid enough to fight him)

5. Dejah. When's the last time we saw him? He's gonna get eaten by something, especially if he really does taste like jelly.
4. Szark. Someone from one of the families of the people he killed is going to behead him in his sleep.
3. Luna. She can't have happiness - she'll die at the wedding.
2. TIM. He'll die in 2009.
1. Miranda. Even if she does die, she'll resurrect herself.

5. Hansi Reinholdt- I doubt he'll be be sticking around for long. (just a hunch, just a hunch)
4. Donovan Deegan- I agree with SaintSmythe's prediction that miranda deegan is a prime target, but i think Donovan will sacrifice himself somehow to save her.
3. Siggy- Seemed to me that Siggy and his ol master aint getting along that great... so im guessin he'll die (possibly after he redeems himself)
2. Milov- One of my favourite characters. Which makes it even more painful for me to admit how easily i can picture him dying... I think milov will die poetically. perhaps with Jayden nearby
1. Garrit/rachel Hart- Is Garrit still alive? if he is then i'll put him there, if he isn't then its rachy baby... simply cos i haven't seen much of them (please excuse my feeble memory concerning the deeganverse.... i have a short attention span combined with a bad memory... its taken me an hour to write all this out)

Garrit's still alive, he's sheriff of Barthis now.

5. Reinholdt - Gotta go with the others here, something tells me he's going to get nixxed in a sacrifical manner, probably for Cassafin or Miranda by jumping in the way or blocking something intended for them.

4. Archangelo Scarlatti - If he doesn't get executed for the "murder" of his student and servant, he's going to be killed off some other way... perhaps as an example by Mookie of just how bad this whole Battlecaster idea really is - Scarlatti's on the run from the law for murders he didn't commit, and the mages take it too far.

3. Siegfried - Will be destroyed by TIM. I WANT MY TIM VS. SIGGY FIGHT DAMMIT

2. Miranda - What everyone else said. Maybe killed by Karnak, as well.

1. Donovan - More likely to be killed by Karnak than anyone else, but likely he'll bite it soon enough.

5. Cassafin: Mainly because of the "right choice hitting me in the mouth" line which originally implied Melna as beign miranda's successor.

4. The Oracle Hunter: it's either Dom or her at some point, so assuming this is the Oracle Hunter arc, and that the arc ends by the end of the year, she must be neutralised. Cassafin is higher, though, as the OH might always survive to recurr again.

3. Karnak: Maybe not this year, but he is definatley going to be taken out eventually. Especially with Siggy looking like he's going to stab him in the back. This year may be calling it early, but he IS going to die.

2. Klo Tark: He's died more times than any other DD character, so it's safe to bet he'll die again, especially since he has a self-sacrificing streak.

1. Nimmel: He's a popular character, and much more likely to be killed at the wedding than Luna IMO because he is less essential to the strip. Besides, his name is a phonetic spelling of Pheonix, and that just screams "Jean Grey" at me.

Technically, there aren't supposed to be any entries after Jan 1 in a traditional death pool, but I was kinda late getting the thread up. >_>

Also, it just occurred to me how awesome it would be if, during the Karnak/Donovan fight, history repeats itself and Donovan falls into hell... and Dominic's dad becomes a demon lord.
