| They really just make you take those classes so the school makes more money. If you only studied the courses that you needed, you'd take maybe 16 courses total. Maybe more if you're going for something really complicated, such as a medical doctor.
So you see, it's all a conspiracy to get all your money. Colleges are really connected to banks and student loan places, they charge more for making you take more classes. They only require stuff so they can get rich.

A good question Maulkin. The best answer to it is "because it will expand your knowledge," which, translated into more practical terms, means, "You never know if you'll need it later."
After the class you will know more, and generally that is regarded as a good thing. |

I'm not so sure of that... first, they would have to compete with each other, while public education discourages any competition. And, while owners of private schools may have a profit motivation, public schools are run inefficiently and ineffectively. That alone may tip the balance as far as cost is concerned.

| Competition doesn't work on something where there is inelastic demand, like education and electricity. Here in Texas, electric bills have tripled since they privatized the electric companies. I shell out $60 a month for the shoebox that I live in, and I never even turn on the A/C.
And god help us if they privatize public education, because we really don't need Coca-Cola and McDonalds deciding what's going to be taught in classrooms.
