| I just got back from watching Speed Racer.and installing a new power supply, stupid computer
I have to say I am genuinely impressed with the movie. I went into the theater figuring the movie would be good for a laugh and walked out with a geeky satisfied grin on my face.
Speed Racer does an exellent job of paying homage to the anime while still making a solid action/comedy film. The racing and action sequences are truly spectacular and the comedy is well delivered.
What really makes this movie work though is its unique visual style. Instead of trying to take Speed Racer and put him into the real world, the movie takes place in its own little world somewhere between reality and animation. Creating a surreal enviroment that blends live action with anime inspired characters and action sequences beautifully.

| I agree with Conduit. I just got back from watching Speed Racer myself and was pleasantly surprised. ^^ I had a little trouble following some of the action in some of the races but that was because there were so many things going on at once. That and all the pretty pretty colors. >.>
And yes, that was the best line in the movie, followed by "Pancakes are love." ^^

| I enjoyed the movie. The most literal execution of the term "live action anime". Great fun and I can't wait to get the dvd.

| I'm afraid to support it. Live Action Anime movies are Hollywoods next big market strategy and I don't know if I want that.
Leanardo DeCaprio (however you spell that) has something to do with Akira. Can't be good.

| Leo is no Sean Connery but he isn't bad. It's just that he tends to get cast for his sex appeal more than his acting.
Orlando Bloom. Now THERE is a mediocre actor IMO. He can't do anything well but look serious, and he doesn't have enough sex appeal to make up for it (though he makes a good elf for whatever reason).
If Pirates were Star Wars, Bloom would have been Luke and Depp would have been Han Solo.

| Seconded, again reit, it's your oppinion, but DiCaprio is a good actor, maybe not a top star like the ones you mentioned, but he is far from being mediocre, decent even, and specially lately, his recent movies have him acting even better than before.
