Also never admit that Halo was your first fps Faceless. The reason there are people who don't like it was because it was good but not anything fantastically new and all of a sudden it got all of this acclaim because it was the first fps many non-gamer noobs played.
It did not redefine the fps genre, it just got lucky. |
Halo shattered many FPS walls.
Weapon swapping and a button for melee and grenades has been co0pied to death. Lets not even talk about seamless vehicle combat. And Alas, halo made Physics in games cool. |
I'm a HUGE Halo fan, take that or leave it as is. (Proudly has the Legendary Edition of Halo 3. Has played to the ground Halo 1 and 2 to the point where the discs look like you tossed them in a box full of angry lions)
Again, Halo brought everything good for FPS on consoles, even in some cases PC, into one great package. It didn't redifine with self-originality, it just did a whole lot of things right that it couldn't be ignored.
I'll say this: Halo is video game's (original three) Star Wars of stories (in the game itself, the way it was presented, how it was presented, etc). (hard analogy, and I see how many people won't get it) (And I predict flames from this, but it's my stance, eh)
Oh, and lets not talk about "regenerating health/shield" thing. Does no one like health packs anymore (there are some cases where this regen business is just plain dumb, others where its warranted)?
Physics cool thing: I think its was the vehicle physics mostly, true physics in games was HL2. Correct me if I'm wrong. _________________

| No, that all sounds right.
I liked Halo as a game, it's just people treat it like the Jesus of FPS. It was good, really good; but not the best game around now or even when it was released. _________________

Yeah, not the BEST in everything. I loved its story things. The game itself was over-hyped dammit, which I saw a mile away, from Microsoft, heh.
Though it seems GTA IV is gettting quite the praise. We'll see later on down the road....when the hype is dead. I see GTA IV as outselling Halo3 in the long run, easily. (being on two systems doesn't hurt). _________________

| GTA 4 is getting points for being the perfect GTA game though. That I can understand.
Shame it's not on PC as of yet too; that always boosts sales.
Wish they would do that with the force unleashed too, as I now find out it is on every platform except PC and the three platforms I have to run it on all have really average graphics. I mean they could have made the Wii version look alot better than it does. _________________

Even being a game-designer in psuedo training, I ask:
If game are being designed by near-computers, how come they aren't ALWAYS (barring contracts) made for PC's as well? I can't imagine the process would be hard, though I might be wrong.
Edit: er, A perfect GTA game is not a perfect game though. I think some people need to remember a perfect 10 means its perfect for ALL games, or at least in its genre. (A perfect shooter ain't gonna mean shit to a pure RPG'er). I'm sure the game is pure sex in digital form for a gamer (its looks somewhat interesting towards me, but not terribly I-must-have-it-neow type thing.....though my brother just bought the special edition, he's a GTA whore, expect it defeated by him in under a day.) _________________

| It got a perfect 10 because it is what it is so perfectly. There are things with most video games that could be done better hence why it's so hard to find a perfect 10 game.
Don't rate by category either; else you would need a WTF? category for half the stuff that comes out of nintendo. _________________

| Heh, Nintendo is like that old granpa that's obviously out of his mind, but keeps on being cool even when he's shitting himself and counting dust particles.
He may be out of his rocker, but Nintendo keeps the flowing half of the time. The other half he's needs his diaper changed.
Also, why are the blue people following me around this forum, they seem to be EVERYWHERE. _________________

| Halo 2 is shit. The winner was determined by whoever spawned next to the sniper and rockets, after that they never respawned, so you had to suck it for 10 minutes while the other team dominated with rapid fire rocket launchers and a sniper that registered headshots in the abdomen.
All the while being called "niggers" over voice chat by 12 year olds.
Lets not even get into the campaign, where they broke every level in half and called it two.
They had ten years to make the game, and spent 9 months of that time actually working on it, they even admited it in the bonus DVD. _________________

| Fuck, too much shit here.
Alright, Halo was cool because it was what made me get into FPS. I used too try playing FPS as a kid, but I thought they were ridiculous. I matured over time and some kid came to my house and said; "Check this shit out!"
I would use PCs for games more, but I cannot stand computers. Consoles are simple to understand. PCs? No. NoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNO!
GTA is something I am very tired of, but I fucking love the game. I can't help it. But the people at Rockstar think they are hot shit, so I can't stand them most of the time. _________________ When the world looks up and shouts "Save us!", I will whisper, "No".
