| Month 10, Day 12: Reaptide Week (Autumnal Equinox) Year 6579 Olympian Reckoning
Reaptide. Time of bounty and wealth for all the land as Harvest comes to full, filling the fields with the bright white of ripe grain and the myriad rainbow of fresh herbs. A time of welcoming and generosity among both the commoner caste and the adventuring population of Olympia, and nowhere is this sense of hospitality more obvious than the bustling, adventurer-laden trade city of Port Haven.
Perhaps it is only coincidence that you all have arrived here within such a narrow span of time: none of you have been in the city fewer than three days or longer than a week. For some it may simply be a stop on the long road of your journeys, a chance to rest and recuperate before striking out for the trail again, and to take advantage of the hospitality of the Haveners during this time of prosperity. For others it might be a consideration of a permanent measure, to put aside the life of an adventurer and strike for a more settled existence within the merchant city's walls, or perhaps on one of the many ships that enter and leave its harbor each day.
~~~~~~~~~~ Port Haven is a large city, walled by stone on three sides and by ocean on the south, and divided into five districts. The north district contains little more of interest to adventurers than the main city gate, leading to the North Ride up the riverside to the village of Eriude on the shores of Lake Miaabrie in four days' foot travel, and the capital city of Olympia, high in the mountains of the Titans, five days further from there; the north district also contains the Temple of Pelor and the barracks of Haven's guard. The east district, along with the east gate leading across the river towards the Manara Swamp and the elven forests past that, also contains the headquarters of both the Wizards' College and the Wayfarer's Guild, of interest to any practitioner of the arcane arts. The west district is a slum, a dark maze of alleys and side streets, but also the home of the Thieves' Guild headquarters (if you can find it...) as well as the residence of The Informant - a strange elven woman with the uncanny ability to find information normally unable to be found - and the second-most-famous inn and tavern in Port Haven, The Smashed Orc.
The south district contains the port harbor and a few seaside merchants and storage silos and warehouses, but little else of interest; for those that know its secret, it is said that a doorway to a strange third tavern in Port Haven can be found here, but that is knowledge none of you yet have access to. It is the Central district that calls to most adventurers, for this is where Merchant's Row is to be found, and nearly anything can be purchased here. This is also the location of Jericho's Mansion - a gigantic building where dwells a near-legendary archmage who occasionally takes on students outside the rules and regulations of the Wizards' College - and the Naughty Nymph - Port Haven's most well-known tavern and inn, owned and operated by a descendant of one of the Heroes of Haven themselves: the bard Jack Fleming, who built the Nymph after his troupe's heroic adventuring days came to an end.
The streets of Haven are filled with all manner of creatures - strangeness and unusualness of race is nothing out of the ordinary to Haveners, and representatives of almost any intelligent species can be seen not just in its streets and shops but among its guard and rulership as well. Not simply humans, elves, dwarves, and their humanoid kin, but also various Planetouched and unusual half-bloods, fey Killoren and draconic Spellscales, miniscule Kobolds and the occasional Goblin to towering Minotaurs and once even a strongly-restrained Troll (although such is not here this week, thank the Gods), the feline-like Rakasta of the northern plains and the lionesque Leoni from the far desert lands of Denvushain. It is morning and, for the moment at least, nothing seems out of the ordinary, just another day during Reaptide in adventurer-laden Port Haven. _________________
| Yansa Mengke, devoted Cleric of St Cuthbert, has ended up in Haven through the twists of fate, and whispers of it's famous name, and reaptide festival. Something about this place called him to it, heeding St. Cuthbert's divine whim.
He wound up in The Smashed Orc in a very peculiar way. He asked someone for directions to the East side, but seeing as they had not a compass, and were relatively new to the city, directed him in the opposite direction.
The rogues and gutterfolk of the West side naturally saw this newcomer with amused suspicion. After some time wandering, confused, he managed to befriend a (in?)famous drunkard, who showed him the way to The Smashed Orc.
After much great exxaduration from his intoxicated counterpart, Yansa Mengke was pressured into preaching about St. Cuthbert, with the people who bothered to listen to him shaking their heads in bemusement, and walking away during and after his religious evangelism.
A few commoners seem phased and almost illuminated by this speech, and his rather intoxicated friend claimed full devotion to St. Cuthbert, swearing to give up drink and be a good person.
We shall see, Whiskey Bob. We shall see.
| James Flerind has only been in Port Haven for a week. As the first town he found after escaping from Valcorthim, it has been a good hiding spot. Few people know his name, and fewer still know what he has done.
On his first day in Port Haven, he wandered around the city, and eventually found an inn. To be exact, he found The Smashed Orc. After negotiating with the owner, he was able to rent a room there.
James has been doing some small jobs for assorted people to make a bit of money. Already he has started to get bored with doing these jobs.. _________________
| A Minotaur moved silently though Port Haven, trying to avoid attention ... however being a fairly large creature he found this to be quite a bit troublesome. He was wondering around somewhat aimlessly, trying to avoid in particular anyone who looked like they would sooner attack him for simply standing there rather then just shoot him a strange look. He eventually decided to seek refuge ... however being unable to fit though all doors lead to be troublesome as well.
He gave a heavy sigh since ever since he first left the labyrinth it was like this. He tried to keep happy about it as it was just part of the balance of life, but frankly it was starting to really piss him off apparently not noticing the complete lack of response to his presence by the people around him. He came across a bar who's door looked like if he squatted down and came in from the side he might be able to fit though and saw the name of the bar was "The Smashed Orc."
He gave another sigh and decided it was better then nothing, and slowly squeezed his way though the entrance and sat in the corner, not even bothering to try one of the chairs as he was sure if he tried the chair would break into splinters under his weight. _________________
| Soren lazily walked his way through the somewhat crowded streets of Port Haven, He had just arrived a few days before and still hadn't found an interesting thing in the city. He had stayed in "The Smashed Orc" since he arrived, the more popular inn had already been filled the day he arrived so he hadn't much choice in the matter.
The young warrior found himself more and more anxious for an adventure in recent weeks, and thought a city as booming as Port Haven would have someone seeking a willing adventurer, but alas he hadn't found a single one, but he still tried to keep his hopes up, he had a good feeling about today as he reached the west district's inn.
He plopped down on a chair near the entrance and looked over his current company. _________________
