| Name: Ashram or Ash Rank: Doctor (Alterist) Race: Human? Age: 25 Weapons: A couple of scalpels. Though he usually doesn't need them.
Appearance: Ashram has short, brown hair and eyesthe color of emeralds. He has a youthful appearance and actually looks rather attractive given his profession. He stands at 5'11" and weighs roughly 168lbs. His clothing typically consist of black pants, borwn leather boots, a brown shirt, and a black and gold coat. Sometimes he wears black gloves. Of course, being an alterist, his appearance is subject to change. Not always in a pleasant manner.
Personality: Generally a nice guy. While he has his essentricies, he is far more stable than yor typical Alterist. Mostly because he can control himself as long as he isn't using his talents. Otherwise he is quite friendly to those he considers allies. Though even when he does let slip some of his more twisted ideas, he almost always believes his upgrades will truly bnefit whoever he's trying to talk into them.
History: Ashram is an alterist that had a little trouble finding work. Seemed the average person was mentally retarded. Here he was, gifted with the ability to cure what ailed them, and they choose to continue to suffer just because he's a little "creepy"? What jackasses! So what if he wanted to give that woman a third breast to go with that third nipple? Or to give that man tentacle fingers? Bah! But then he met someone interesting. Someone who didn't care how weird Ashram's brilliant ideas became. He even offered him a job on his crew or some such nonsense. Work was work. Even if this so called captain had decided to give him an annoying nickname.
Things to know: Even though he's officially the ship's doctor, this doesn't stop Ashram from joining in on some of the more violent activities the crew experiences. It's always fun to get your hands a little dirty every now and then.
-----------------
This is an example of his normal appearance. For simplicity, assume the green sleeves follow that black and gold pattern.
| Spoiler: | | | |
And this is an example of the form hemight give himself if he had to make someone stop being alive.

| It might be too late, I'll have to see if someone specifically sought me out and used a "colorful" description. I'd prefer if my guy was new enough that people knew he existed, but didn't really know how weird he can get. _________________

| A note on Dragons:
Dragons as a race are fairly friendly beings. That is if they aren’t trying to kill you, eat you, pillage your lands, burn your crops, harvest your children, Collect rent money, or ask you for a cup of sugar. But most of these things hasn’t happened for centuries since the last great Sugar Wars in the age Kings. Dragons now spend most of their time deep into the southern continent where few men actually go. But there can always be a dragon or two found near a Magic School of any renown.
Its is a well known fact that dragons of any age can connect into a vast collective of knowelege that is accumulated by any other dragon of its same type. That is to say a red dragon cannot access a blue dragon'scollective and vice versa. This is however not the common type of Hive Mind Collective. They do not know everything instantly and it may take some time to find exactly what they need. They contribute at will and can keep secrets. This does however allow for instant communication despite distance. Dragons are often begged to aid in large battles as communications or recon and when they accept their assistance is invaluable and generally makes any battle one sided. But it’s a rare day when a Dragon Takes flight for a human battle.
There are of corse many notable legends around dragons. Decendents from the Age of Kings when Dragons warred eachother and used human soldiers and Mages who came to be known as the Drakanis Orders who gained power from these dragons although is is unclear how.
There are of coarse those who have devoted themselves to studying the dragon powers and there are oddly more than enough dragons willing to submit themselves to being tested on. As they are very curious creatures and feels it’s a good way to observe human behavior.
Importantly Dragons are no where near invincible. It has been known for a single Human to kill one (rare) but hunting parties can put up a good fight. Dragons are however Immortal Or as close to Immortal as Humans will come to understand as the eldest of them far outstretch our oldest text.
Dragons come in colors
Red: Most common Adept at fire Blue: Common Adept at Ice and Water Green: Common Adept at nature
Yellow: uncommon Adept at Fire and Wind
White : uncommon Adept at Lighting and Ice Black : Rare Resistant to all elements cannot cast Extremely powerful physical fighter
Orange: Rare Susceptible to all magic Powerful Dragon mages.
Hybrids: Extraordinarily rare at all regards. Figure out powers on your own have mixed scales very very powerful dangerous and unstable.
Gray: Elder Dragons: Nothing is known, We know of them from books and various things dragons say “By the gray” and such. None have been seen in the last centuruies. _________________ ntia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem.

| Name: Raviana Sayre
Rank: Scout Leader
Age: 26
Gender: Female
Weapons: Roughly half a dozen daggers of varying shapes and sizes; she has become rather skilled at throwing them, but she won't hesitate to use them in close combat if the need arises
Appearance: Raviana stands 5' 6" tall, and she weighs roughly 130 pounds. She's not particularly strong, but she can hold her own if need be. She has brown hair that reaches a little ways down her back, and it is naturally streaked with a deep red color. She has bright blue eyes and a slim physique. She typically dresses simply in pants and a shirt, preferring to keep her ability to move rather than dresssing up, though it has been said that she cleans up nicely. She almost always wears a thick glove on her left hand that extends to her elbow.
Background: Raviana grew up in the entertainment business, in a travelling show, of sorts, but her parents were disappointed that the only thing she seemed to want to do was throw things. Lamps, chairs, gnomes, anything and everything. But hey, lucky for her, the resident knife thrower got himself involved in some rather unpleasant business with an orc and was never heard from again. So Raviana took up the art and travelled with her family, throwing small knives into even smaller, brightly colored targets until she was 13. Life was dull until the day she ran into Havasu, a crazy old falconeer with plans to train an apprentice. Unfortunately, no one would willingly become his apprentice; he was crazy, after all. Fortunately, he really was out of his mind and bribed Raviana to take up the sport. Eventually, Raviana mastered the art (though she technically practiced hawking since she preferred hawks to falcons), though it took her a while to realize that she couldn't throw the bird. Once she got past that, however, it was a piece of cake! When Havasu died, he passed a newly caught bird on to Raviana. Strange magic was afoot, however, and she and the bird became inexplicably bonded. They became a great team, and an offer to start some recon work turned her from an entertainer into a spy, of sorts, for the highest bidder.
About the bird: When Havasu died, he left Raviana with a large hawk which she then named Artesia. Artesia is sentient and is a great recon tool for Raviana as well as a companion. The link between Raviana and Artesia is strong, and Artesia can express thoughts to her human companion through it. Roughly 31" in length, Artesia is chocolate brown across her body with reddish-brown "sholders" (the wrist of the wing). Her tail is tipped in white, and her eyes are a golden color.
| Spoiler: | | | |
Best way to think about her: Tough but fairly easy-going. She's lighthearted but can be suspicious and cynical if a situation calls for it. If you insult her bird, however, she'll probably never forgive you for it unless she knows that it's in jest. |

| On dragons, I was going to post the DragonLance version of dragon types, but realized that its your RP, and those dragons were mythically powerful (though killable, not nearly as easy as the ones in here).
I would ask though, that it would be noted in history that for many years dragons didn't want to co-exist with humans, and even had a war with them. But someone changed that, and was able to bring peace between the dragons and humans, and even able to convince dragons and mages to learn from another in magic.
Also, other dragon facts (for this RP):
Dragons communicate through there own draconic language, one that is very hard to learn due to the different mouth structures of humans from dragons, but one can eventually learn in time. It should be noted though, that dragons are known as a species that can tele-communicate, because of the mental bonds between dragons are strong.
Other dragon types can telecommunicate with other types, but they can't link minds together as efficiently as dragons of the same type.
Dragon's blood is HIGHLY illegal to own. In fact, the only people allowed to own dragon blood is high-ranking Mages and Alchemists.
The reason for that is because Dragon's blood is very potent stuff. Something to do with how much magic dragon's contain, and their strange element breathing abilites, lends to their blood being very potent magically. That, and an the old peace treaty between dragons and men made quite clear that dragons didn't want their blood or other parts of them to be marketed like farm animals. But mages had exceptions, since dragons didn't mind them as much as common man.
Note: (In a hurry for something, so I'll type the other things I wanted to type up later, got work to do)
Again, you're call scott on what is and isn't in this RP, just helping out. _________________

| I am gonna cover Dryads, since Dragons has been pretty well covered by James and Scott.
Dryads are basically Wood Nymphs, they are Spirits of the wood, intensely shy of humans and other beings, but this will not stop them from defending the forests they call home.
Dryads are among the most skilled creatures in the use of nature magic, particularily those that heal and accelerate growth.
Dryads are extremely long lived, as old as the trees themselves, making those of the ancient forests among the oldest creatures in existence. Yet they are tied to their homes, so in a sense, cutting a tree will cut the dryad that is tied to it.
They have a general humanoid shape, but with bark instead of skin and are highly resistant to most forms of nature and elemental magic with the exception being fire.
Although skilled and potent, not much is known about dryads nor care to be known, their shyness has prevented any great deal of study on them from occurring. _________________

| This next post will cover magic specifics, like types, how magic is done, what focuses are, runes.... etc. Will edit this post with info later.
((DAMMIT IT ALL!!! I had a much longer than this edit ready, and my browser shuts down from overload of screens I was using. Next time, I'm typing this shit in word then copy+paste. Anyhow, here's SOME of it before I go to bed.))
Magic... it is mysterious, , but contains its own sets of rules and limitations.
First, how is magic done?
Magic is energy that exists everywhere. In both living and non-living, animate, and in-animate things alike.
But in sentient beings, some have the capability to control that magic.
Those people are mages.
The Levels of spells goes as this:| Spoiler: | | | (copied though edited from Scooter)
Novice: The most basic of spells which require no Material Focus or for more powerful wizards, words spoken
Adept: Most of this require words spoken however No focus is required. One can use a general focus if you want them to be more powerful but its not usually required.
Expert: General Focus and Spoken word. All the time
Master: require specific Focus for that specific spell and wont work for others. They require spoken phrases.
There is another level of spells called Cosmological spells. These spells take long periods of time to cast, between research of Runes required, obtaining said runes from the dragon realms, Usually require large amounts of space, and the incantation can take anywhere between an hour to three weeks to say.
These spells however are world changing. At weakest they can destroy an army, at strongest they can sink an island. |
But as different is our fingerprints from each other, so to is our ways we control magic, and what we specialize in. Types of magic are:
(And yes, I'm using some Oblivion terminology. I find they did a good job with classification of magic, but not the greatest in making spells like we will)
| Spoiler: | | | Destruction:
Mysticism:
Conjuration:
Restoration:
Alteration: "Alteration magic can be used to change the fundamentals of physics and biology. It can harden the caster's skin until it is like armor, protrude spikes from the neck, grow extra arms, and even in higher levels, change into other beings or half-beings."
Alteration is a tricky subject, since many people don't get what alterists can and can not do.
Alterists CAN'T make matter appear where there wasn't without using nothing.
Alterists CAN'T make you lose an eye and grow a third testicle with a few words.
What can they do then? Alterists work with exisiting matter and alter it. Duh. Though there is a restriction on how they can alter it, among other things.
For a good example, lets say someone wants to grow spikes out of their neck... how is that done?
Well, first, lets say they are metal spikes, affixed to the skin. The alterist focuses on the spot where the spike will be, and likely open a hole in the neck. From there, the alterist pours out magic and chemicals in his own body, and uses them to make the spike.
Now, you're saying "James, you said they can't make matter just appear". Listen closely foolish ones, for you forget magic.
See, alterists excel at manipulating magic, altering physical (flesh, bone, wood, steel, etc) and non physical (magic) things. Its the same way a mage fires a fireball when there wasn't any fuel source or spark there in the first place. Using magic, and altering it into what one needs to make.
See? For the neck spike, the alterist used some of his own chemicals, and internal magic to make steel, and make it affixed to his body.
You might be thinking "Cool! I'll just make my skin metal and I'll be invincible!". Yeah, you do that, and your still human joints will pop, creak, and snap from the greater body weight, and you'll likely die of lead poisoning since you forgot your body 'breathes' through your skin, jackass. To counter those effects, you could enhance your joints and bone structure, and give your liver triple the production capabilities in flushing the iron in your body, and put pores in your metal skin."
Another example is, "Let me make myself two more arms, I'll be a quadruple-sword-weilding-machine!" Yeah, that sounds great, but how is it done? You would start by finding the two spots in your body where the arms will come from, then, using your magic, tear the skin and muscle there, and hasten the repairing process. As it repairs though, guide the flesh into a different direction. Keep the regeneration going, and soon your have two useless arms hanging at your side. Oh? You forgot bone structure, tendons, and nerve endings didn't you? You get all of those done, and now you still can't wield those katanas the same as your two original arms can? Well duh, you haven't trained with those arms, so now get to training rookie!
Of course, how long does this all take? Well, for a novice, creating neck spikes could take a minute, though an adept could do it in seconds, and a expert in a split second. A master can cover his entire body in spikes in a split second too. An extra set of arm? For a novice, if he can even complete such a task before passing out from the exhaustion, about a full day. An adept, half a day, an expert, an hour, a master, a couple of minutes. The more complex the alteration, the longer it takes.
But wait! There is a way to circumvent time in complete form changing! How? These times are all based that it is the alterists first time creating it. Of course, you may not want to walk around with metal skin all your life, so most alterists will take form and then un-form those ‘extras’ of them. If they have a battle form they like, they practice forming and unforming in and out of that form. Soon, they can make what’s called a ‘form preset’.
A ‘form-preset’ is an individual alterist’s form that he/she likes to use a lot, and might be a form that he/she wishes he could form into a matter of seconds. Alterists make these form presets by tying that form into a phrase, using a focus, and for complex forms, most likely a scroll containing the biological information of that form (the scroll burns up when the phrase is used, and the body’s magic ‘reads’ the info and does the work for the alterist). Alterists can use ‘form-presets’ to change into a battle form that might’ve taken a master quite a few minutes to do, and time spent sitting there in one place in a battle is very bad time. Of course, these form-presets drain magic heavily, as all alteration does. Alteration can tire somebody quite quick if it isn’t their specialty.
Don’t worry, this section is almost done.
Lastly, alteration of one’s self is tricky, but altering other things, or even people, is much more so.
See, altering your own body may be hard, but altering another person’s is impossible, even for a master, to some degree.
Why?
Because even the most basic of alteration for another person will be stopped by all living things natural body magic defenses. So no, an alterist can’t give you a third arm and a huge beard without your permission.
((Sorry shogo, but anything else but that limitation makes alterists GODLY strong. The exception is if someone is unconscious, to a degree. That allows you to stay a doctor.))
But, with permission, and extra time, a person CAN get that extra arm they dreamed of, but couldn’t get due to not being an alterist themselves.
Illusion: |
Other things I'm going to put in:
What are focuses?
What are Runes?
And more specifics on Dragons. Particularly, how Illegal dragon parts are used. _________________

| THIS SPACE NOW WAITING FOR DOOGAN TO TELL US ALL ABOUT GNOMES!
Gnomish Creation Myths: There are several theorys on where gnomes come from. Some people say gnomes aren't born they just pop into existance where ever fun and brevity are needed by a Gnome collective hive mind. Some people say Gnomes used to be giants till an evil wizards spell shrank them (or made the rest of the world grow, its kind of fuzzy on that point.) Some people think gnomes evolved from silly monkeys. Some people think underpants belong under your pants. All of these people are wrong.
The truth is Gnomes don't know or care where they came from. They just know their gonna have a good time while they are here.
Gnomish Society: Gnomes have a diverse and wonderful culture. or at least thats what any gnome will tell you. then that gnome will sell you your own underpants. There are no gnome towns. Gnomes usualy don't put down roots. tending to wander looking for adventure. Gnomes raise their children untill they can fend for themselves (usualy about 5 years old) then part ways to seek their fortune. Interestingly enough a gnome usualy will keep a picture of their parents on their person as not to forget who taught them all they know.
Gnomish Religion: Gnomes have a very different view of religion than other races. they do not believe in one god. or even a small pantheon of gods. Gnomes believe that every living being sentient or not has its own personal god that watches over and sometimes directs their life. The Watcher, as they are known, decide what happen to us and bring both joy and sorrow in equal measures. Gnomes believe that as long as we entertain the watchers and work no ill will in the world they will keep their charge alive just to see what they will do next. Most gnomes live their life to the fullest every day to ensure their watcher will be entertained and keep them going. Sometimes though gnomes do such stupid extravagant things and still die. It is said watchers can forgive foolish gnomes but never stupid ones. _________________ Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend.
