Make sure to read ALL of this if you're going to participate. If you haven't read it, you'll be disqualified. If you don't have the time to read my rules, I don't have the time to read your stories.

Here's how this works. I will be the only person to post in this thread. Once a week (at least to start with. We may go more or less depending on how you guys feel.) I will post an entirely new lit contest. Anybody who wants to can compete. At the moment, I can only two reasons why you'll see a new post in this thread. Either there is a new contest starting, or the old contest just ended. I will act as permanent judge, and I'd like it if I could get at least 2 people to volunteer as judges for each competition. PM me if you're interested. You only have to judge for ONE competition at a time, but you CANNOT compete in a competition you're judging.

The process will be refined as we go along. On to the first writing Challenge!

Since this was SuperDrops' idea (a fantastic idea at that) here is the challenge:

Write a story wherin one mythological personage is the protagonist, and a mythological personage from a completely different mythology is his or her enemy. Loki vs. Ra is a good example.

RULES:

*Must take characters from at least TWO mythologies, and make them rivals of some kind. If you want to include more than 2 mythological characteres, that's totally cool. Odin and Ra might be good buddies, and combat Loki and his friend Hermes.

*All entry posts must have "Contest 1:" as a prefix to their title. If NSFW stuff is necessary (god that would be bulky) then put the NSFW stuff first.

*Entries must be between 500 and 3000 words. List the wordcount at the beginning of your post. I'll be using this competition to judge what a good min/max would be in the future.

NOTES:

*"enemy" doesn't mean combat by definition. I'd find it amusing if somebody made a dramatic story about a game of bowling.

*Please stay true to character. Loki shouldn't be a straightforward guy, and Gilgamesh shouldn't be a brilliant tactician.

*I would really appreciate a couple judges. I don't want to accidentally show bias towards any particular person or genre that I favor.

*It's okay to suck.

GRADING CRITERIA:

*Quality of writing. Spelling errors aren't a big deal, but atrocious spelling isn't going to help you. What you really want to look for is keeping your spelling and grammar above par, and keeping the flow of the story fluid. A generic story can be exciting if it's told well.

*Plot. A poorly concieved plot with fantastic quality will lose to a fantastic plot with mediocre quality. If I feel like the plot is something out of an LSD trip, then you're not going to score well. (Unless Anansee is a druggie and Odin is the fuzz. That would rock.)

*Originality. Two gods meeting in titanic battle as their human armies clash below is good, two gods playing chess, using their human armies as the pieces, is better.

Alright, that should be all. Get to it kids. =D

I'm sorry, in the great ammount of tired I was suffering from last night, I forgot to post an END date to the competition.

The deadline for submissions is June 13th at midnight GMT. Winners will be posted by June16th.

BTW, while I'm posting, Lady Macbeth and SuperDrops are judging this week.
