| Ah, I see - you're going by right and wrong being defined by culture, I'm going by right and wrong being universal. *shrugs* I'd rather not get into that debate. _________________

But your alignment shouldn't change just because you're in a different area... I wouldn't be chaotic evil if I went to Nazi Germany, even though I would try to help and hide the Jews and that would be considered wrong and illegal. _________________

| It wouldn't. You would still be lawful good because thats how you view morality, however in the area you are in you might be considered chaotic evil. Using WoW(i know horrible example) a lawful good hume might wander into orc territory but he would be viewed as chaotic evil by the residents in said territory. _________________

| This made me remember a quote:
"One People´s terrorist is another´s Freedom Fighter"
Dont remember who the quote is from tough.
Also, i know this does not fit the Lawful good thing, but it shows the way things might change depending from the perspective. _________________ Hell Hath no fury like a woman you really shouldn't have slept with.

| Yeah. Like i said, that is the enternal struggle here. To do what the law says, which in this case is turn over the jews, or to do what is good, which would be to hide them. If you turned them over to the Nazi's you would be lawful evil, lawful neutral at best. If you hid them you would be Neutral or Chaotic good imo. It all changes on the situation. It is possible to still be lawful while using chaotic means to achive a higher goal. The thing is you keep trying to be lawful. _________________ "The only way to settle this dispute between two gods is with a pie-eating contest!!!" - Elan

| Ugh, subjective morality. I hate it so.
That's one of the things I like most about D&D alignments - they're absolute, not subjective. _________________ Boris: "Oh I love it! UNKNOWN MAGIC! Let's go stick our heads in it, guys! OH COME ON!!."

| As for Lawful being a badly-named alignment, I've agreed since day one that it should be Good, Evil, Order, and Chaos (and the various Neutral blends), but as no books/games register it that way I just have mentally tagged "Lawful in alignments = Ordered" rather than "Lawful in alignments = follows the law". _________________ Boris: "Oh I love it! Bingo. I have a strict code of morals, and a strict code of law - the society I live in just doesn't follow the laws, and ignores the morals. Doesn't mean I'm chaotic evil. _________________

| Oblivion, you're about the fourth person I've met that independently came up with the name "order." I think that it's a fabulous idea.
WotC came up with an even better naming convention, though: Page 108 – The Nine Alignments [Substitution] Names like “Lawful Good” and “Chaotic Neutral” are so generic and boring. Strike all alignment names and replace accordingly: Lawful Good: Superman Neutral Good: Picard Chaotic Good: Indiana Lawful Neutral: Adama Neutral: Unaligned (you’re still boring) Chaotic Neutral: Jayne Lawful Evil: Vader Neutral Evil: Bender Chaotic Evil: Mearls + New Alignment: Batman Thus, a character would now say, “I am of the Mearls aligment” or “Batman alignment”.

| I actually like playing TN chars too, BF. LN is probably my favourite, but TN can be a great deal of fun.
@Oblivion: yes, it did need to be quoted. WotC had an excellent set of articles up April 1st. I liked the video interview myself, although I suppose that it wouldn't make much sense unless you already saw the other interviews. |
