| I'm finding that many people are confused about the game mechanics so far, so I believe it needs to be asked (and placed into a single topic, rather than scattered answers everywhere):
"How is this game's fighting engine structured?"
This will also be the place for future updates, things like how the special bars and desperations will work, will there be parrys, what about platforms, dashing, rolling, counters, rage mode, etc.
Those are just a few questions.
I will update this first post with new information found out constantly. Eventually making a game manuel.
Date: 04/16/08 Edit: Alright, not posting much, but I'm going to at least get a general layout started. Now added the background story so far, with edits to make it another world, and not a forum
Mechanics: (this section will list how the game's mechanics will be, will be sub-divided into sections, will also include a link or glossary of terms of fighting game mechanics, things like hit lag, flinching, knockback, special frames, etc)
Manuel: (this section will be made like as if a game manuel. What's the backstory, why is everyone fighting, describes the game, etc.)
| Spoiler: | | | Background so far: Terra was once a peaceful place. Well, about as peaceful as a place with wars and constant fighting can get. That all changed one day when the dangerous balance that kept the world going was threatened. The Devourer, an unknown entity, had appeared. No one quite knew where it came from, but all could tell it had immense power.
The taint of the Devourer has been growing stronger in the world as of late and it is beginning to effect people. They become nearly mindless servants of the Devourer, worshipping him like a god, and trying to bring more people to his side to raise his power so he may finally be freed. Several have set out to end the reign of terror the Devourer has started. Others, however, have a different idea in mind. They intend to take control of the Devourer and use it to control this world, and maybe others! Others still have agendas of their own. Who will win? Will the balance be broken? And why is Maulkin dancing around in buttless chaps?! |
Special info: (whatever doesn't fit in the other sections. Just a placeholder)
| Spoiler: | | | For example, Ark's list of what characters are using what weapons right now: Weapons/Weapon user list. Dragoniangirl - Pencil Phoenix, Angel of Judgement - Flaming Sword Taluria - Large Monkey Wrench Savaran Darklight - Iron Stave Ark - Single Katana (more for throwing and desparations than fighting with) Thalros - Blunderbuss and Battle Axe Faceless - Scythe Private Jenkins - Assault Rifle/ Grenades/ Tank Drache - Stave Bladed Falcon - dual nodachis (long katana) Oblivion - Magic and Black 13 Jack A T - Mishmash of weapons Veln Hakuyo (Loofa's character) - Sword of unspesified type Shogo - Long Blade (possibly demon sword) Tatara - Memes
Just an example.

Ongoing debates: (for what is being debated on, like right now the mechanics of supers and desperations)
| Spoiler: | | | Right now we are discussing how the supers and desperation moves work. Will update with ideas and questions soon.
Took what I had typed earlier and placed here:
"I realized that some stuff is answered, but with 5 different answers. One of the most confusing for most of the forum is what is the difference between commands, specials, and desperation moves.
Commands: Hadouken? Doesn't use special bar. Special: Powerful, like Shinku-Haddouken. Uses special bar (I beleive the special bar mechanics need to be looked at, most likely having 3 levels, with some moves requiring the special to be at a certain level, and can be chargeable, DBZ style) Desperation: Epic moves that cause considerable damage, uses a energy bar completely to use (questions "how does it get energy, what other consequences are there, should there be ways to maybe counter them. I beleive if we look at guilty gear, many of those answers are clear. Except make the moves non-instant kill though)." |

| Actually, what I had in mind was...
Command: Overhead attacks, slides, etc.
Special: Hadoken, shoryuken, spinny-kick-thing etc.
Desperation: Powerful, like Shinkuu-Hadouken
And I do believe I explained this in the thread that I erected in the character section. Though I might've been rather vague... |

| SF is a poor analogy for us, and saying that Hadoukens are specials is a bit odd, meaning that they are used far less, letting that character losing some flair and flavor.
THOUGH, everyone has already designed their characters like you have stated, making their cool attacks into specials, so I suggest an idea: We do not keep the special bar mechanics like that of SF. It needs to either fill up faster (and contain more room, like have three gauges, with a clicker next to the one special bar, and when the bar reaches one gauge, it adds to the ammount of gauges number next to it, if confusing ask), or add in the 'charge-up' abilities like that of DBZ and Naruto fighting games, making special attacks more prominant (but the charge up can't be too fast). But, charging up leaves you able to 2x as much damage as you would've recieved, balancing it out.
And yes, you were most likely vague, this thread is to document and STATE what is fact into one thread of the game mechanics and discuss any ideas or changes.
Again, suggestions and ideas.
Also, we have not thought of entrance animations, possible entrance quotes, and in-fight taunt animations.
Also, what about voice overs? (Not a game mechanic, but a good question, should I put this question in another thread, I hate to make one when not necessary). _________________

| I'm more than willing, however, I'm not sure that my mic can accurately record the quality of my Irish accent. _________________

| I could record for those who can't put their voices in the game. (using audio software to change my pitch, and my own small talent for voice changing). _________________
