| The knight bowed his head in thanks and used the handkercheif to wipe his brow. "I thank you, Daxavioni. And it cant be helped. No matter the weather, a knight shows his status proudly." What status? he tought to himself. He was one of the lowest-ranking knights, but only on purpose. Still, he hated not being able to climb to the top like all the others. "I would probably be warm either way. You thre are probably used to the climate, while i am not." _________________

| Mortimer tilted his head slightly. He had seen this man before, he was sure of it. But where? Bah, it was of no importance.
He stood up sharply, and turned to the knight. His smile was very wide and his eyes were bright. "You any good with that chopper of yours, boy? Care to have a go with me? I promise to go easy on you." |

| Mortimer's smile grew. He cast a look over at Dax. "Take notes boy. You may learn something."
With a laugh he sprang forward and snapped his staff up. One hand was about midway up the length and the other near the butt. He had reach on the knight, but if the knight got in close, he would have the advantage.
Mortimer stabbed forward, his thrust a blur, laughing all the while. |

| | Mortimer used his momentum to spin on one leg and lash out with his other foot, catch the knight in the stomach. He then hopped away on one foot, cursing himself a foll for kicking a sheet of platemail. He lashed out with his staff again, a bit slower now, but also far more controlled. |

| The platemail made a small "cling" noise as Mortimer kicked it, and he smirked a bit. He did the same as before, knocking the staff out of the way. However, this one had more control, and the end of it ended up smacking him in the face.
Roland fell back a bit and regained his composure. A small trickle of blood dripped from his mouth, but he just waited for Mortimer's next move. _________________

| "First blood!" Mortimer crowed. "I got me first blood, heehee!" He cackled, just in case anyone missed how incredibly happy this made him.
He fell back slightly and circled the knight. "Come now boy, you can go ahead and take a swing. I may not look it, but I'm a fast one." To drive this point home he dived forward and unleashed a flurry of blows.
He couldn't help but notice that the knight was blocking them though. |

| Yes, he was blocking every single one, but he was hardly paying attention. Blocking and parrying were his strongest points, followed by willpower, then strength. To Roland, first blood meant nothing. The only thing that mattered was who lost.
Finding a split second between blows, the knight drove the hilt of his sword into the scarecrow's stomach. Hard. Very hard. _________________

| Mortimer took the blow in the stomach with a grunt. He bent over, grasping the knight's arm with one hand and his body. He took the opportunity to give him a whallop across the side of the head with his stick-
Wait, Mortimer knew this man, but that was with the spellwolves in the Winter Archisomething. Didn't he have a sister then? And a brother? And a dog?
Oh wait, no, that was someone else. God, this guy packs a punch. |

| The blow to the head was unexpected and unblockable from his position. The knight fell to his hands and knees and everything became black for a moment. The fight had caused him to work up more of a sweat, and he yearned for the cool haven his home in the Winter Archipelago offered. But that was impossible.
He shook his head and stood back up. Roland had been defeated, but he wasnt a sore loser at all. He bowed respectfully, then stood back up. Odd...this Mortimer looked...familiar...somehow...as if he had seen him before back home...oh well.
"That was truly invigorating" he said with a small smile. It was probably more action than he would get at the village. He wiped the blood from his mough and head and sat back a bit. His head was still spinning from the blow and the heat and he needed to sit. _________________

| Mortimer took out his flask and the vial of the good stuff. He added a drop and drank a bit. A jolt ran through him. He passed the flask to Roland.
"You're good, especially on the defensive. It wasn't really fair, because you could have run me through instead of sucker punching me, but oh well."
He sat and began to play the hang drum. How's your sister and brother Roland? And you dog, if you have one." |

| Roland's eyes widened. So he was familiar! And he knew about his brother and sister! But a dog? No way. Lesca was too afraid of the werewolves and spellwolves to dare to get a dog.
"My...My brother and sister..." he couldnt bring himself to say anything. It could jeopardize the safety of his siblings. Ignoring the flask, Roland stood back up, holding his head and wiping more blood away. "I really should be going..." _________________

| Mortimer arched an eyebrow. Did he touch a nerve? Did he say something wrong? Was it his hat? Ooo, was there some vast plot about something or another and this knight was on his way of a mighty quest?
Mortimer stood quickly, his possessions quickly jammed into his pack. "I think I shall go with you. We seem to be heading in the same direction anyway, and I'm well rested now." He gave the bard woman and swordsman a bow and stalked away after Roland.
Wherever there were knights, there was excitement. And maybe cookies. He liked cookies. |

| | Dax watched the spar with interest. A crazily old man, going against a fully armored knight? This should be good. The fact the old man had gotten first blood had surprised Dax. Why didn’t the knight grab the staff? And twisted it out of the mans wrists, disarming him… A few moments later, after a foolish kick to plate male and a return of a pommel to the other, Dax winced softly to himself as they continued to talk, a shocked look on the knights face. Apparently the old man was much more then a cookie vagrant, and Dax gripped his sword hilt again. |
