| As soon as the zombies began to grab and throw Ozy, Delven started laughing loudly. He stopped once Ozy began to get up and grinned slightly as he spoke.
Well I'll be damned, Ozy might just be a better smooth-talker than the nobles in Erossus.
Afterwards Delven takes a step to the side of the barrier and leans against the wall. "I'm not an assistant, Ozy, I'm security. A job that could have been much less annoying if it wasn't for YOU. *turns to Redro* Sir, it's your call if you wanna tell these intruders about the experiment. But don't worry about them deciding to try and stop you afterwards, that's NOT happening." _________________ "I eat the talking bees because I'm George Washington Christ."-Junkie [Bob the Ball] Caption Contest Winner: #2 and #16 |

| "He has a point Sir... I forgot your name. Anyway, maybe we should hear this guy out, the crystal motif is neat, and it's a seldom explored branch of magic due to costs, but..." Lloyd said as he drew his bow and took out an (ice-affinity) arrow.
"And besides, I can teleport us out if anything too nasty happens." Lloyd bluffed (no way he can teleport that many people underground, the #1 impediment to teleporting) |

| (I'll be posting soon, don't worry. I've just had a bunch of projects due, so my time online has been limited to quick little answers and witticisms (well, I think they're witty, anyway...). _________________

| "I doubt that. You can hear him out if you wish. My main goal is the criminal. My only other concern is that I know very few necromancers who have everyone's best interests in mind."
And I would really rather Delven not have an ally who is hiding behind a wall that I can't get through. _________________

| Redro kept his face impassive while the student spoke, his expression impossible to read. Several uncomfortable moments after Ozzy fell silent, he finally said, “That’s quite a tale you have there, but I’m afraid I don’t believe a word of it. However, for the sake of those who do have a genuine interest in magic,” he gave a small bow to the professors, “I shall elaborate.”
Like the maw of a huge creature, a few crystals retracted into the cave wall and allowed him to step across the barrier. Immediately after he passed through, however, they snapped shut again and once more barred the path; it wouldn’t do to make a grandiose speech, only to allow one of them to slip through and hinder the experiment. Satisfied that everything was secure for the moment, he lifted his robed arm and pulled the sleeve down, revealing heavily Blighted (and slightly rotted) flesh. “I have always been adept at Necromancy; the manipulation and application of the Blight has been second nature to me for as long as I can remember. However,” he brushed his arm down the cave wall, leaving a smear of ichor and rotted skin on the rock face, “it has had it’s drawbacks. In my attempt to conquer death and oblivion, I have had to embrace the less savory aspects of it. And so, I am trying to alter the fundamental aspects of Necromancy.
“As some the more learned members of your little group may know, Necromancy is not one of the ‘pure’ magics; it does not fall under one of the four physical elements, nor the six metaphysical ones. Rather, it is a combination of various elements, resulting in a power greater than the sum of it’s parts. And of these elements, I have been able to isolate elemental chaos. And that little bit of chaos is the fundamental aspect of decay. Now, I have tried using several methods in an attempt to eliminate this distasteful aspect of Necromancy, but have thus far been unsuccessful. The apparatus in the chamber before you,” he waved his hand in the general direction, “is my latest experiment, and is supposed to replace the element of chaos with order magic.” _________________

| I have no clue what he just said.
"I have no clue what you just said. Question. Will... Whatever you are doing cause the deaths of innocents? Also, I'm taking him, like it or not."
Maktael raised a sword an pointed it toward Delven. _________________

| Delven looked bored and apathetic as Redro spoke. After the knight's reply he leans towards Redro.
"Sir, just so you know, I'm fine with the experiment causing the deaths of so-called 'innocents' as long as it doesn't kill ME as well." His eyes flash open and he turns back to Maktael. "Did you just say "I'M taking him."?!"
He takes a couple steps towards Maktael, undaunted from being inches away from his sword tip.
"You didn't say "WE're taking him" which is what I'd expect from a knight who had reinforcements...*grin widens* or were you actually dumb enough to come after me alone??" _________________ "I eat the talking bees because I'm George Washington Christ."-Junkie [Bob the Ball] Caption Contest Winner: #2 and #16 |

| "Do you see any other authorities in this cave? Therefore I am taking you out of this cave. Then you will be escorted back to Erossus."
Damn. Need to watch that.
"Also, you might want to back up. One of these blades is made out of resistant metal. Guess which one."
Hope he doesn't guess it's my razor in my pocket. _________________

| Delven's grin fades away and his eyes widen again as soon as Maktael mentions a resistant blade.
DAMN! Looks like I'll have to be more careful...
He glares at Maktael while slowly raising his still-human left hand to the sword tip and quickly brushing his index finger against the edge. Blood drips from his finger for a moment before the cut closes instantly.
"Well then, I guess it's the other sword."
He takes a step back and smirks.
"I'm just messin with ya, there's nothin to worry about. A legitimate scientist who tells their own security NOT to cause intruders harm isn't going to kill people with an experiment. *turns to zombies* I don't know the specifics but it seems like this'll help keep zombies from being so damn putrid which would be great for everyone."
That's IT! If this whole thing seems beneficial then all I have to do is fake some sincerity.
He frowns and turns to Maktael. "I don't get why you're trying to stop me from doing some community service, I finally started feeling a bit guilty for all the killing and whatnot. *smiles* So I figured this was a fine place to start repaying my hefty debt to society." _________________ "I eat the talking bees because I'm George Washington Christ."-Junkie [Bob the Ball] Caption Contest Winner: #2 and #16 |

| Ahh... So he is afraid of resistant metal... Good.
"I doubt that. I think you are just afraid that the necromancer here would kill you. And, as long as his... experiment isn't harmful, and he doesn't interfere with your arrest, I don't care what he does."
Maktael lowers his blade, and grins.
"Besides, if you are truly feeling guilty, you will have no qualms in returning with me, to fulfill your sentence." _________________

| Delven's smile fades. "Well who WOULDN'T be afraid of disappointing a necromancer? That doesn't mean I don't have some guilt too...But my animal instincts eventually trigger a violent reaction to being caged or cornered. If you drag me back to jail it's only a matter of time before I break out, killing your fellow law enforcers in a blind rage as I escape again. Is that what you'd prefer rather than having me work off my debt?" _________________ "I eat the talking bees because I'm George Washington Christ."-Junkie [Bob the Ball] Caption Contest Winner: #2 and #16 |

| Lloyd, examining ther situation, decided to butt in. "Well now, this is interesting. Undead that won't decay? A crystal skeleton would be pretty neat... Anywho, I don't believe you told us your name, calling you Necromancer would probably sound a bit disdainful..."
Lloyd turned to Maektal and continued. "The changeling is lying through his teeth. I knew a guy who whipped out the 'changeling tendancies' card all the time to get out of trouble. Granted, he was genuinely affected by said nature, but he was still a jerk and knew when to pull the card."
Going back to Redro, putting away the ice arrow and bow: "Now, as you can see the only thing we truly object to about this perdicament is the fact that you are using a wanted criminal as security. I shall step in for now as we being him in, I'd imagine your almost done."
Suddenly thinking of something, Lloyd added: "Actually, you might be able to get the schools backing for this, submit a proper proposal and what you've done so far, you could get funding, security, and fame! What do you say?"
Okay, the die is cast, he could help us, he could hurt us, he could accept, he could reject, the school might not support necromancy, all sorts of things could go wrong.
After thinking on this... Lloyd concluded oen thing: I should of let Ozy do the talking. |

| Delven immediately starts growling when Lloyd accuses him of lying. As soon as Lloyd mentions stepping in his exoskeleton extends down his legs and his ears change to those of a bat.
"Alright, the truth is I just really really hate jail. But how the hell is my capture a TEACHER'S business anyways!? It's the knight's call whether I go back to the cage, letting that hatred build as I wait for the chance to violently release it *smiles* OR whether I stay here doing supervised community service that won't lead to anyone being eaten." _________________ "I eat the talking bees because I'm George Washington Christ."-Junkie [Bob the Ball] Caption Contest Winner: #2 and #16 |

| Ozy listened to this discussion half-heartedly. This isn't getting us anywhere. he thought to himself. Just a roundabout discussion over one changeling.
He quietly stepped back and sidled over to the other students.
"Psst. Hey, Trin, teacher's pet." He whispered, gesturing towards the necromancer, "What do you make of this guy? Should we trust him or not?" _________________ "When most people agree with you, worry." Rappaport, 1981 |

| "Fine. I know how to settle if your lying or not." Lloyd said smugly.
"Necromancer, are you paying him? If you are, he's just trying to make a buck and we can assign him to REAL community service if he's so sorry. If you aren't, it'll be up to Knight whats-his-face."
Lloyd, as an afterthought added: "It's my business because you are a wanted criminal, it's EVERYONE's business that you pay for your crimes, whatever they are."
That, and I always wanted to be a Knight, but they didn't want to have a half-elf in the ranks, or at least when I applied. |
