Name: Razi Ellenholst

Age: 22

Genre: Dominic Deegan (Traditional Fantasy)

Race: Human

Gender: F

Alignment: Chaotic Good

Physical: Short and a bit pudgy, with red, disheveled hair. She has a small, but very visible, scar under her right eye. She also has lots and lots of freckles.

Clothing: Baggy blue sweater, with a beige skirt. Her shoes are typical brown fair, and she wears glasses.

Occupation: Student at the Arcane Academy in Quirral. She's majoring in Physical Magic, with a minor in Time Magic. She is in her final year of study at the academy before she achieves these goals, though she is strongly considering staying on to gain a masters degree.

Skills/Abilities: Razi is very intelligent, and has extensive knowledge in any field relating to the natural world.

Supernatural Abilities: Razi is capable of casting semi-advanced Physical Magic spells, as well as moderately difficult Time Spells.

On-hand Resources/Items/Possessions: A small wand her father gave her before she left home for the Academy.

History: (Very Rough Draft)

Born to a middle class family in Lynn's Brook, Razi was never a particularly remarkable child. Her Father, a blacksmith, was a loving, understanding man. Her mother,
a large, jolly woman, who helped her husband in the smithy, was outgoing and always seemed happy. Though she got most of her looks from her mother, Razi definitely
took after her father, who was shy and reserved, much more. Razi lived happily with her parents, and her two younger brothers, until she was 16. When she was 16, she
began to wonder what she should do with her life. The boys her age were passing her over in favor of thinner game, which worked just fine for her anyway. But still, it
raised a lot of questions in her mind. What was she going to do with her life?

Thinking it might help, Razi's father took her to see the town seer, a man named Dominic Deegan. They thought he might be able to peer into the future and see what would
be best for Razi. When they got there, though, the seer didn't use his crystal ball at all. Instead, he simply talked to Razi, asking her questions until she eventually came
to her own conclusion--she wanted to study magic. After thanking him for his help, Razi asked what method he recommended for beginning to study magic. Without missing a beat,
Dominic replied that books were the best place to start. He also added that in two years, she would be old enough to apply to the Arcade Academy in Quirral, where his mother
was headmistress. Asking them to wait a moment, Dominic briefly disappeared into another room of the house, and returned a moment later with a book. "This should get you started,"
he said. "There's not much of an academic selection in the Lynn's Brook store, so you keep this. It will help you figure out what kind of magic you'd like to study. Thanking him
profusely, Razi and her father went home together, smiling broadly.

Excited as she was, Razi didn't exactly rush through the book. However, in two years, when she was old enough to apply to the school, she was ready. Once she was accepted, she began
making arrangements--finding a caravan to travel with, choosing only the most essential possessions to take with her, etcetera. Fortunately the university had dormitories, so she wouldn't
have to worry about housing. After a tearful farewell to her family, her father presented her with a gift--a magnificent wand. It was black, and made of iron. Ever so slender, it still managed
to taper off a bit over its 16 inch length. At the end was a small purple gem, held in place by criss-crossing iron weave. Giving her a kiss on the forehead, her father said, "I didn't
always want to shoe horses you know." and smiled at her. Wiping the tears from her eyes, Razi smiled back, and hopped on the wagon that would take her to Quirral.

Four years she's been at the Academy now. She hasn't particularly made a name for herself, residing somewhere in the middle of her class. Still, she is respected by her peers for her dedication,
even if she doesn't always do her reading assignments on time.

Personality: Introverted and shy, but very friendly.

Interesting Facts:

* Razi hates reading. She prefers to do her learning first hand.

* During the Battle for Barthis, Razi was one of the students who helped build the stage, by casting "Strength" spells on her classmates.

* Physical magic is the magic of helping or hindering basic bodily functions. Spells exist to strengthen the body, increase the jumping or running power of the legs, or turn the skin hard like armor.

Hrm...either I'm blind, or that sticky option is hiding pretty well. :scratch:

In any case, after my test, I'll look around some more as well as put up a character. Now, I've never actually done an RP before (I've got a lot of friends who play D&D, so I think I have a vague idea although I've never actually participated), but the character's history just kind of wrote itself, so we'll just see how this goes. :)

Yeah, it's not hard. It's not even as strict as D&D

Also, I can't find the sticky button either. Neither can the bossman. But if you look at the bottom of an individual forum, at the key, there is a "stickied thread" icon. So it MUST exist.

Ok, I know I said I'd post a character yesterday morning, but I have a couple questions first.

First of all, the character story I came up with is for a seer, albeit a relatively inexperienced one, and seeing as how I've never done this before, I'm not sure how that would work. Also, would this be starting before or after the beginning of the academic year at the Academy?

I think we should try and keep up with the comic, so I think we should be somewhere near the beginning of the academic quarter. (Dominic's class only started a week or so ago, and they said it was winter quarter.)

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "how that would work," so I'll just say that you should try to make it work the same way it does in the comic. Your seer should have the same seer-related experiences that dominic has. Seer's shroud, visions, "the gray."

Alright, here we go:

Name: Ozymandias Gwynplaine; “Ozy” to his friends.

Age: 19

Race: Human

Gender: M

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Physical: Tall and skinny. Has shoulder-length, dirty blond hair,which is usually uncombed, and bright blue eyes.

Clothing: Beige pants, red shirts, and a brown jacket. Always. Has been known to occasionally been known to wear a grey scarf.

Occupation: Student at the Arcane Academy, second year. Specializes in illusion spells, as well as dabbling in chaos magic.

Skills/Abilities: Ozy is fairly intelligent, and very people-centered. He is very charismatic, and has claimed to be able to “convince anyone of anything at anytime.” He is a natural prankster, and a joker to the end. Can play the lute moderately well. Has shown talent in several artistic fields. Loves puns. (I consider it a skill.) Claims to be a near-expert swordsman, but has yet to have been seen by any classmates even holding a sword.

Supernatural Abilities: Ozy is a practical genius when it comes to illusion spells, capable of making illusions to fool all but the best seers. He has also shown to be quite adept at chaos magic, however, he has simply kept this ability to “making something completely random and quite entertaining happen at the precisely right moment.” Has shown moderate levels of skill, but absolutely no interest, in other magics.

On-hand Resources/Items/Possessions: Carries a three-foot oaken staff at all times. Uses it to gesture or point when he talks, or simply to spin when bored.

History: (VERY Rough Draft)

The only son of a retired Bard and an Innkeeper, Ozy lived quite comfortably in a small town along a trade route for quite some time. Having spent his life surrounded by people, Ozy learned from a young age the importance of being able to tell a good story (it can get you free food and drink if you play it right.) Having a bard for a father amplified this, as Ozy's father was more then happy to teach child a few essential bardic skills. How to play music, how to spin a good yarn, how to put attention elsewhere, while doing something shady, and above all else, how to entertain.

These skills served Ozy well, as he was able to earn some extra coin by entertaining the guests at his mother's inn, plus keeping several people enthralled in an “epic tale” is a good way to keep them buying beer. Slowly, Ozy become moderately famous in the surrounding area for his stories, and more infamous for his pranks, which usually involved slime or slight of hand. Or both.

That being said, Ozy was on the fast track to becoming a bard like his father until one day. A traveling professor from Quiral came through Ozy's town. After viewing the sheer panic and entertainment caused by a single “chaos-assisted bounce spell,” Ozy was hooked. After talking to the professor for several hours, and several beers, Ozy was able to “borrow” some of his books to see what he could do. After picking up several illusion spells, Ozy was able to bring his shows, as well as his pranks, to a whole new level, often using complex illusions to “bait” the victims of his increasingly-complex traps. To this day, several of the townsfolk won't touch dropped coins, for fear of a resulting sliming, or worse.

A few years later, Ozy moved away from his parents, and towards his future. Using the funds he gathered, as well as some savings from his parents, he moved to Quiral to study illusion magic at the school there. Still a bard at heart, Ozy is probably one of the few students who don't want to be “great wizards, and instead simply hopes to learn some “really cool spells” to add to his shows, in order to make him the most famous, successful, and in-demand entertainer ever!

Now in his second year at the academy, Ozy has built a name for himself, not so much for his spell casting ability, nor for being studious, but rather for his entertaining impromptu shows (which occasionally involve pyrotechnics, song and dance numbers, and several quick costume changes,) as well as his ability to talk his way out of anything, usually by involving such long, complex, and round-about answers,that people forgot what they asked in the first place.

Ozy is firm in his belief that with enough charisma, one could get whatever he wanted, even rule of the world. He has no intention of ruling the world, mind you, but it's nice to have the option open. He despises manual labor, and will go to great lengths to avoid any of it, preferring instead to rely on his interpersonal skills to get things done.

Personality: Typical class clown. extroverted, and very charismatic. A classic smooth-talker, is claimed to be able to “hit you with that stick of his, then convince you that doing so was such a good idea, you'll buy him a drink just for coming up with it.” A slacker like the best of them.

Interesting Facts:
*being raised in an inn, Ozy has no tolerance for ridiculous concepts such as “minimum drinking age” or “too much beer for a twelve year old.”

*Is constantly snacking on mavpel candy, and goes to some extremes to import it. Claims that if he ever lost his sugar high, he'd go “boring.”

* Is a huge fan of Donovan Deegan's music, as well as his sense of humor. Once attended a banquet held by Miranda Deegan simply for the chance to meet Donovan. Was evicted by security, after one of the chefs recognized him from the “Chaotic Banana Cream” incident.

* Did not go to Barthis with the other students, as he dislikes manual labour. Did, however, buy tickets and attended the concert.

*Is rumored to have been the cause of a slime-based explosion a year back.

*Is known to have been the cause of a slime based implosion six months back.

*Loves books, stories, myths, and reading in general.

* Has vowed to use his powers “only for fun, as evil is mean, and good is boring.”

I LOVE this character. I really look forward To playing with you. One or two more participants, and rough plot, and we'll be ready to go. ^_^

Btw, the anal retentive nerd in me has to say that Prof. Spoon tested the chaos bounce spell for apparently the first time long after it is said to have occurred in your character's history. However, such minor details hardly matter. I just had to let myself be anal for a moment.

The anal retentive nerd in you is correct, and the anal retentive nerd in me is kicking me for not realizing that beforehand. The rest of me, however, finds the image of a randomly-bouncing object sewing chaos in a bar far too humourous to give it up, so the writer in me is quickly attempting to find an explanation to cover my glaring plot hole... Of course, the slacker in me doesn't care, and is willing to attempt a "That's the first time he ADMITS to it" type cover up. I'll get back to you when we reach a verdict. :D

Meh. As far as my character recalls, this is what happened. I'll leave it at that. It was years ago, so who knows what has happened. Minor point anyways, I should stop obsessing about it.

Skills/abilities: Eliane is intelligent, very resourceful, and quick-witted when backed into a corner. She’s fairly strong with great endurance and is excellent at bargaining.

Supernatural abilities: has a knack for earth spells, especially involving plants. Also knows a few simple incantations.

On-hand resources/possessions: none

History:
Eliane grew up on a farm near Barthis with her parents and three older brothers and younger sister. Though the farm produced and sold well, they were still well below middle class. Since they were unable to afford hired hands, everyone had to put a lot of effort into running the place. Eliane’s role for years was with the livestock.

When she was ten, however, during a trip to town, that changed. Eliane and her oldest brother wandered away while their father was negotiating a sale. Eliane stopped at a flower garden to pick a bouquet for her sister, unaware that it was private property. When confronted by the owner, she panicked, accidentally causing the plants she’d disturbed to regrow the flowers she’d picked, with buds to spare. The owner confronted Eliane’s parents about the incident but let her off without any trouble.

Upon returning home, Eliane’s father gave her a tattered book on magic from the attic that had belonged to her great-uncle. She began teaching herself the basics, using some of these skills to improve the crops and starting her own small flower garden. She became locally famous for her flowers, selling them as a way to save towards her dream of attending the Academy.

A few years before she was old enough to apply, however, the area went through a dry spell, which the farm barely survived. Eliane decided to study the weather in hopes of averting another disaster like this.

Personality: Very friendly, but a little impulsive and quick-tempered. She focuses seriously on her studies and gets average-to-good grades.

- doesn’t have much of a reputation at the school, but she does help tutor anyone struggling with plant magic
- is best known for oversleeping during first year exams, sprinting into class in a panic, and causing every plant in the room to grow rapidly enough to cause evacuation. Teachers are now required to put a protective barrier around all live decorations.
