Alright, cool. Don't sweat it on the alignment, LadyM. I've always seen it more as a guideline then a hard and fast rule. This looks like it could do well, we so far have three middle-of-the-road students. In true DD fashion, they aren't really your usual hero types. Not geniuses, not warriors, not even really good students. I'm very impressed with this group, and can't wait to get started!

Alignment: Something to do with good…I’m not even sure what all the possible alignments are, so we’ll just stick with this until I’m awake enough to read up on them. :p

Physical: I’ve never been great at randomly coming up with descriptions like this, but I’ll come up with something soon.

Clothing: see Physical

Occupation: First year student at the Arcane Academy.

Skills/Abilities: Orin is a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to pretty much anything non-magical. Due to the wide range of people he has worked for before coming to the academy, some with...less than noble intentions, he has become quite skilled at discerning a person’s true intentions (if there happens to be any difference between their words and intentions, of course).

Supernatural Abilities: Orin is prone to random visions, with visions about major changes in his life are extremely clear. It's unclear whether these special visions apply to only him, or if they would show up for major changes in the lives of those around him. He is slowly learning how to properly use his second sight to help those around him.

On-hand Resources/Items/Possessions: Gold left over from his time working before going to the Academy (since I don't recall Mookie explaining the monetary system, the amount will be decided when/if we decide on a system). Also, he never goes anywhere without his box of tools. Some of his professors were aggravated by this seemingly useless habit, but Orin has overcome that by being able to fix anything and everything that has happened to break over the course of the year so far.

History: Orin grew up in a town so backwater that nobody really knew about magic, and what they did know of was considered "witchcraft" (which it is, really, but they were of the burning at the stake sort...). Therefore, when Orin started predicting things that would happen hours, days, and sometimes even weeks before hand, the townspeople started to shun him. Soon, the only person that would talk to him was the daughter of the family next door.

Unfortunately, the shaky peace Orin had with the rest of the town came crashing down when he experienced the clearest vision he had ever had. In the visions prior to this, he had had to work to interpret what they meant, but in this newest vision he clearly saw his friend's father being murdered while out on a hunting trip. But when Orin tried to warn him of the coming danger, he was told in no uncertain terms what would happen if he didn't leave immediately. Two days later the man was dead.

Naturally, everyone assumed that Orin had killed him, and they were just about to hang him when a man no one had seen before spoke up. He identified himself as Celesto Morgan, a seer of some repute. He then proceeded to point out exactly who the killers were, what their motivation was, as well as what they were wearing, who they had talked to and what they had eaten on the day of the murder. “The boy is coming with me.” With these words, he cut Orin down and began walking down the road.

Orin traveled with Celesto for about a year, learning more about his power. Eventually though, the day came when Celesto received a vision prompting him to go to Erossus, and instead of continuing to follow, Orin decided to travel to Lynn’s Brook so that he could hopefully speak with Dominic Deegan. Unfortunately, when Orin arrived in Lynn’s Brook he noticed a distinct lack of the seer, but because he had used the last of his money to reach the town he decided to stay for a while.

Orin lived in Lynn’s Brook for the next two years, taking any job available, until he overheard a couple of people talking about the Arcane Academy, and more importantly, Professor Deegan. After hearing this, he finished the day’s work, gathered up his tools and money, and left the next morning for Quiral and the Arcane Academy.

I'm guessing that the academy is still on it's post 9/11 security high. The infernomancer attack was only a couple years ago.

I could play an NPC instructor who gets killed off near immediately.

Being an "actual adult", and seeing as I somehow came up with a character that LadyMcBeth posted (coicncidence, I'm sure, but still a bit irritating), I could try a Professor-type character, if y'all are interested. Let's see... As follows:

Name: Anastacia Flynx, insists everyone, including her students, just calls her "Stacie"

Age: Roughly 40, although only her closest friends know for sure (really she's only 34, just graying early and playing on it for added respect).

Alignment: neutral good. More into the spirit of the law than the actual wording.

Physical: Roughly 5'5" tall, raven black hair tending toward gray. Well, okay, let's be honest. She's going white with a vengeance, in narrow streaks here, there, and everywhere. She's extremely pale-skinned, but without the freckles that plague red-heads. She's got brown eyes, and more smile lines than frown lines. Most students find this vaguely reassuring. They discover, if they get into trouble, that this is misleading.

Clothes: Stacie favors silver, but has also been known to wear green or red. She favors tight, but not revealing, shirts, and long kulats (basically, for those who don't know, pants that look like a skirt). She usually wears a sash/belt in one of her three favorite colors, but not the same color as her outfit. After all, a single color is boring.

Occupation: Professor of Natural Magics for the Arcane Academy at Quiral. This means she teaches elemental and plant magics. Mostly for the lower classes, as she's not tenured yet.

Skills/ Abilitiies: Stacie has a real ability to bring out the best in her students, as well as her plants. Even struggling, middle-of-the-road students can do extremely well in her classes, always assuming they make the effort to come to her for extra tutoring. She prefers the elemental magics to plant magic, however. She thinks that the procedure to become a changeling is a shortcut to make working with the elements easier, and would never consider it herself, although she doesn't hold anything against those who do. She was actually offered the position Neilen eventually filled, but turned it down. Her favorite element to work with, and the one that comes easiest, is air.

Supernatural Abilities: As already mentioned, Stacie's got a special affinity for the element air. It sometimes seems no harder for her to control than her thoughts. Of course, if you could read her mind, you'd realize that's a bit harder than most people think. As she occassionally complains in the Professor's Lounge, "Wind tends to have a very short attention span. I'm constantly having to remind it what I want it to do. And when that's gently float me to the ground during an example for my students, it's important that I make sure it's paying attention!"

On hand resources/ items/ posessions: Stacie usually has a bag of various types of seeds on hand. Generally useful things, like berries or apple trees or such. Also vining plants for the occassional tangle. She's especially fond of chlamatis (which I probably misspelled) for that because it's got such pretty blooms. Also sunglasses if there's even the chance that she'll have to be outside for long. As well as a staff that she boasts "has never been carved by man or woman." It's roughly the same height as she is, and made of black locust.

History: Stacie has been working at the Academy since she graduated from it, ten years prior. First as a greenhouse assistant, then a lab assistant, then a researcher, and finally as a teacher.

Before that, she was an orphan. She had lived on her own since she was eight, using her rough abilities with plants to keep herself alive (and actually living better than some, although I doubt she's agree). She doesn't really remember much from before she was eight, except vague foggy images. Things like "I remember a woman singing to me. She smelled nice." Stuff like that.

Because of her own childhood, Stacie's very frugal with her money. But rather than squirreling it away for a rainy day, she uses what she saves to help students who are 'underprivileged' to get the things they need or pay tuition. Her own student days at the Academy were financed by an unknown benefactor. She also hopes one day to discover who it was and pay them back.

I like this character, and it sounds like Eliane'll be in her classes.

Excellent, we have an authority figure for the students. I'm glad I missed out on starting it yesterday.

Though, if nobody is opposed, I'd like to play an extra NPC teacher, and an NPC student. Expendable characters add a touch of realism to the situation I think.
