I've always felt that villians are usually the most dangerous when they have convinced themselves that they are the heroes.

Edit:- DUDE! There should totally be a villian smash-up RP thread when there's enough entries.

Hello. Thought I'd throw this up because there's something else I'm supposed to be doing.

This guy is the protagonist in a book I'm writing. The themes of Revenge vs Justice, Damnation vs Redemption, and the nature of heroism come up a lot so if you get that vibe it's probably in purpose. Probably. ;)

Name: Born Heian Nailo, AKA Tomarin Valan AKA “Paladin” and dozens of other false identities.

Age: 197 years old, the elven equivalent to someone in his or her mid-to-late 20’s.

Race: Desert Elf.

Gender: Male

Physical Appearance:
He is for the most part unremarkable for a desert elf male. His body is more defined then an average elf male but he usually wears loose fitting clothes to hide this. Seeing him without any sort of head covering reveals that the tips of his ears have been savagely cut off and only recently has he not considered this a mark of shame. There are multiple small scars from various battles all over his body but full clothing covers the vast majority. Rumor had it he’s gouged out chunks of his own flesh giving him small depressions in which he can hide small items under false skin. While this is most likely untrue it does seem awfully strange how his throwing knives just seem to appear.

When acting as the “Paladin” he wears what’s for lack of a better word a costume. The majority of him is covered in what’s best described as dark urban camouflage / armor with some adjustments made for easier use and psychological effect. Multiple throwing knives, a pair of daggers, thieves tools, and what adds up to a first aid kit have all been confirmed to be carried at all times. Depending on what exactly he intends to do he also carries other gear specific to the task. As for magical items he rarely carries more then 2 at any given time and they are always as low of power as he can get away with, minimizing premature detection by magic using opponents. He also always hides his face and head with black masks and at least a hood if not a full cloak. The final touch, and purely for a further psychological edge, a simple design was added to the chest of the camouflage / armor with magic paint. Just enough so that a mage using detect magic and staring right at it might see it. With a whispered command word the paint glows and a ghostly double-cross-and-ring design appears. This design is a combination of symbols representing justice, death, and rebirth giving the design a meaning along the lines of divine retribution. It doesn’t do anything on it’s own, but it does scare the crap out of anyone that’s heard of “Paladin” and redirect attacks away from his head and extremities to his better protected chest.

Abilities and Skills:
Heian has no innate magical abilities in any way shape or form. Being an elf he is immune to magical sleep effects, resistant to enchantments, and can see in lower lighting then a normal human but these abilities are entirely biological in nature. The elven brain is wired differently from humans and doesn’t need sleep, much like modern sharks the parts that aren’t being used rest. Elves do need to do something similar to sleep known as “trancing” for roughly 4 to 6 hours a day but this is closer to deep meditation then sleep. Heian has had lots of experience with magical items and has shown skill at using multiple items at once in nasty combinations. Using Spark Jewels, Rings of Item Location, and basic alchemic compounds to improvise a powerful remotely detonated explosive device for example.

Heian also has no innate psychic skills beyond what is granted by the way elf brains are naturally wired. He has however, thanks to literally lifetimes of training and practice, learned some self-hypnosis techniques. If given time to concentrate he can temporally dampen his ability to feel pain from injuries. Also for someone with no innate psychic ability he can set up impressive psychic defenses. A gifted psychic would rip through them like tissue paper, but it would definitely have to be on purpose. His greatest claim to psychic fame is the “Empty Mind” technique. Among the best psychic stealth techniques a mundane can learn he can put himself under a hypnotic trance, have his body complete a previously set series of tasks and contingencies, and temporarily shut off his conscious mind. While acting under the influence of “Empty Mind” he is incapable of making any decisions and for all intents and purposes appears to have been put under a hypnotic trance by someone who knows his full physical capabilities. In effect this makes him invisible to many psychic abilities and has caught more then one psychic off guard.

It’s in his mundane abilities where Heian truly shines. With no less then a century of training and battle experience as a mercenary and assassin behind him he has peak elf agility and speed, and near peak elf strength. In human terms he’s noticeably shy of peak human strength but still much stronger then the average human. In addition it may just be impossible for a human to be faster or more agile without magical or psychic help. His experience with poisons has greatly boosted his immune system and it has saved his life on multiple occasions. Having trained for what has literally been a lifetime for the majority of races he has mastered multiple empty-hand forms of combat and many armed forms. While exceptional with daggers and short swords he’s nothing short of an artist with empty-hand combat or, if he needs some range, simple throwing blades.

Rumor has it that he's quite possibly the best empty-hand fighter in the world, quite possibly the best fighter period. Rumor also has it that if it’s sharp and capable of being thrown he has absolutely perfect aim with it for within 30 paces and still has better then 90% accuracy for 60 paces and he’s a good enough shot that with a crossbow that he can pick out individuals from crowded town squares. Rumor and Truth however are usually very different things. He's definitly in the top quarter and possibly in the top 10% of the population in terms of combat skills, but he's trained along side and against opponents that in a fair 1-on-1 fight would be far superior. However since he never, ever fights fair and seems supernaturally good at finding exploitable weaknesses his skills seem to be far better then they are.

Finally there are his mental capabilities as a tactician and his skill at improvisation. Careful planning was practically his trademark and he considers a plan poorly constructed if he isn’t 2 steps ahead of his opponents at all times. His refusal to use orthodox tactics, a calculative personality, and a complete indifference to killing made him an extremely lethal assassin and a very dangerous opponent. A favorite weapon has been the use of deception and misinformation. A good example of this is his “Paladin” identity. While he has never actually claimed any sort of divine connection he has incorporated multiple attributes shared by vengeful figures among superstitious belief systems at one point or another. The result has been what amounts to a psychological edge, opponents believing they face some sort of boogeyman / avenging angel.

Personality:
First it has to be made clear that he’s not fighting a war. War pretends to have rules of engagement and war pretends to have some sort of honor. He doesn’t even pretend to have honor. As for his past he does feel bad about what he’s done and he will probably never forgive himself, but in his mind no just deity would ever forgive him either so letting the guilt weigh him down would be just counter-productive. He keeps looking and moving forward to minimize the time he looks back because he knows he just can’t face the consequences of what he’s done. Heian is also quite possibly one of the most vengeful people you’d ever meet, especially if you hurt someone he’s deemed innocent or just. He recognizes there are degrees to evil but in his mind there’s a line. Cross it and your life means absolutely nothing to him. Go further and he will exterminate you with extreme prejudice. He has very little if any qualms about using murder, deception, kidnapping, threats of sexual abuse, torture, mutilation, arson, and acts of terrorism to achieve his goals. He has given up using torture to find information, but only because "they tell me what I want to hear and not what I need to hear". While not above kidnapping family members of targets it should be noted that if they themselves are good he treats them very well, unless you count his cooking as a form of torture. He knows that value of smoke and mirrors and has created a mysterious boogeyman / avenging angel identity dubbed “Paladin” so he can do what he wants without repercussion.

However, as rotten as he is there is something else about him. Where he goes, hope follows. Completely unaware of his history as a heartless mercenary and assassin, his neighbors see someone completely unafraid of anything Parradagon throws at them. His “Tomarian Valan” identity teaches self-defense classes and stands up to the dirty cops, drug dealers, extortionists, psychopaths, and mob muscle that go anywhere near his neighborhood. In his “Paladin” identity he’s saved so many lives that the few honest cops left in Parradagon gave up trying to keep track. “Paladin” is a vigilante in a city utterly without justice, a freedom fighter in a city without hope, and a walking miracle to the victimized and the oppressed. No matter what has happened he’ll take himself to death’s door itself if it will save one more innocent. Because of Heian, the just and the innocent in Parradagon are starting to believe in heroes and in themselves again.

Then what is Heian? The best answer is just a lost soul, a reflection of Parradagon at both it’s best and it’s worst. He’s all too aware that he’s a monster and he’s the last person that should be passing judgment. The only difference he sees between him and the vilest members of society is that he admits the truth, that death is too good for people like him. It’s just sometimes things are made absolutely clear and you can’t keep living quiet little lies anymore. He knows that for every single person he kills, no matter how deserving they were, he’s damned that much more but if he did nothing he’d damn himself even more and gods help him killing is what he knows. There’s just one thought nagging at the back of his mind. When they were separate he and Parradagon were both hopelessly evil but is it possible that maybe, just maybe, they could save each other?

History:
He was born the youngest of three children and the only son where he lived in a small trading village among the desert kingdoms. When he was roughly the equivalent of a 6-year-old his oldest sister and a human boy from the village fell in love, but much to his bewilderment he was told to keep this quiet. Innocently naïve, he thought it was just a game played by adults and that if he watched long enough he’d figure out the rules. It was this curiosity that caused him to follow her when his sister went to visit her love that day. Planning to hide and surprise his sister and her boyfriend, he watched paralyzed with horror as the couple were caught by the boyfriend’s racist family and horribly murdered.

Somehow making it home and after spending literally weeks in shock, anger sparked when he noticed that nothing was being done to bring the killers to justice. Believing that this was only because nobody knew what had happened, young Heian bravely stepped into the town square and practically yelled out everything he saw. Not understanding the town’s deeply rooted prejudices, all that resulted was that he was beaten and the tips of his ears cut off by an angry mob.

Feeling violated because of what happened to him he took to wearing hoods and headpieces to cover his ears, but he still maintained a shred of faith that justice would prevail in the end. Years went by and the anger only got stronger. Finally when the last of the killers died happily of old age surrounded by success, friends, and family Heian snapped. After doing everything someone that was physically 10-years-old can do to desecrate and destroy the graves of his sister’s killers he ran away from home and never looked back.

The following years are somewhat of a mystery. It’s believed that he was taken in by muscle for organized crime lords and his first documented kill happened before he hit puberty. Which of the 2 caused the other is unknown. What is known is that by the time he was physically in his mid-teens he had done enough to get the attention of an assassin’s guild and began training with them. Finding a potential vent for his anger, he spent literally a human lifetime perfecting any technique they had to offer.
It’s believed that he would have become a leader in the guild if it weren’t for his association with known elf-supremacy groups. It’s possible they were toying with his emotions for cheaper hits but before long he was a believer. He was never a member of these groups but only because as much as he hated non-elves, especially humans, he had no problems with taking their money. It has been documented that he’d use reduced rates when accepting contracts from these groups, especially if the person they wanted dead was human. At some point he branched out into more mercenary style jobs as well and has seen action in multiple wars and conflicts, displaying absolutely no conscience when committing acts that would qualify as crimes against humanity today.

Eventually the guild representative in far off city of Parradagon died and Heian decided to take her place. Moving to the city he found he rather enjoyed the maneuvering and intrigue, with the occasional poisoning to make things really interesting. Soon he developed a reputation among the local mobs as the man that could kill literally anyone in Parradagon if the price was right. Quickly making his way up the city food chain it was on a job for the city council when the dominoes began to fall.

Disguised as a sleeping bum in an alley while waiting for the mark he saw her walk by. She was a little girl that was a dead ringer for his murdered sister in his earliest memories of her. Distracted for just a moment he noted it as an oddity and went back to work. When dirty cops killed her parents and kidnapped her he did absolutely nothing, nothing at all.
Three days later he was hired to kill a morgue attendant for asking the wrong questions and trying to apply pressure to prosecute a murderer with deep mob, possibly city council, connections. If the employer hadn’t requested slow and painful the morgue attendant wouldn’t have struggled, and Heian would have never seen what was under the sheet. The same little girl he saw getting kidnapped, now raped and mutilated.

Shocked, the heartless assassin in an unguarded moment actually felt a pang of guilt. Feeling like fate had given him a second chance and he blew it he vowed that it least this time the ending would be different. Taking the morgue attendant’s evidence he was supposed to destroy, he instead promised a dead little girl that he would find and massacre every single living thing that benefited from her death in any way.

It’s a promise he still has yet to keep. He started with the corrupt detectives that were supposed to be investigating a series of child murders and mowed down anyone between them and the killer. Along the way he did discover that there were in fact innocent people living in Parradagon. They lived in constant soul-crushing fear, powerless to do anything, and without anything resembling hope but they were there. He had encountered evidence that the killer he was looking for was an honest-to-god demon and, going to their hidden church intending to steal better weapons for the task, found that they were willing to have faith in him. Giving the weapons freely, they attempted to reach out to him but he shrugged them off. Just trying to finish his promise so he could move on with his life he left them to finish the hunt.

In the end he found that the killer too much like himself for comfort. The killer was not a cackling soul-eating demon like people believed, just a man without a conscience willing to do whatever it took to get what he wanted. The only real difference was that the killer murdered children for sexual pleasure while Heian murdered children for financial gain, splitting hairs as far as Heian saw it. Seeming like fate was driving the point home, he discovered that the killer had taken his last victim just hours before. If he had gone for justice and not vengeance the child would have lived. To top it off, he discovered that there were 2 people he hadn’t thought of on his hit list. The killer was the illegitimate son of two city council members, explaining his connections with the police. If he completed his promise, they'd be made into martyrs and go against everything they stood for.

Heart-broken, Heian went back to the hidden church for some sort of guidance. To his shock while he damned himself for failing to save the last child, they forgave him and reached out to him. When he confessed his sins to them, they offered to show him the path to forgiveness and redemption. Destroyed utterly by the sheer beauty of the act, he considered their offer but looking within he just couldn’t forgive himself for the things he’d done. At first Heian considered suicide and in a way he did kill himself. He faked his death, liquidated his worldly fortune to acquire weapons and supplies, and created multiple identities with one purpose. The innocent and the just deserve a world free of tyranny, fear, despair, and oppression and he’s going to give it to them. Maybe along the way he’ll even let himself live in such a world, but it’s not looking likely as of yet.

Soon sightings of a mysterious avenger stalking the guilty began, a self-defense school was opened in an area torn apart by mob violence, and someone saved a family from a burning apartment building. The city council still has no idea the events were connected but they do know something is up. In the mail two certain city council members got strange packages. In each one was a hand of their secret son, kept hidden from the world because of his “unusual” tastes, each with a strange symbol and a one-word note. The one word on each note was “Touch” and the message was clear. Nobody was untouchable in Parradagon, not any more.

Deegan-Verse Adaptations:
While Heian hasn't come into contact with the younger generation, Heian knows Miranda and Donovan very well. Bitter enemies since the moment they met, Donovan and Miranda were some of the few people that could intervene on hits and save the mark with any sort of regularity. There was a time where it was rumored that being protected by the two of them would give 50-50 odds on a marks survival, something that did not bode well for his reputation. It didn't help that in his prime Donovan with his sword was someone that could beat Heian in a fair 1-on-1 fight at least two-thirds of the time. Not that he knew that, Heian never ever fights fair.

To restore his reputation he is said to have accepted a contract on the pair during their wedding. However a grateful lord found the simple solution, he paid Heian double his fee not to kill them. Sure payback would have been nice, but he was a professional.

Later, when his ability to get work was being affected by their constant mettling he had to prove to the criminal underworld that he could kill anyone. Catching them by surprise in their own home he spent days putting them under psychological torture, ending in telling them to drink poison threatening to kill the other painfully if they didn't and tricking them both into thinking the other hadn't to cover his escape. Both ended up surviving but not before Miranda miscarried the child that would have been Steven or Stephanie Deegen. His reputation secured, he continued his reign of terror until his date with destiny in Parradagon.

Yes, I am new here. Yes, I am posting a small-time villain. No, I don't care who uses him as a villain.

Name: Johnathan "Sharpshot" Havolen

Age: 28

Race: Human (Callanian)

Gender: Male

*Good (+10)/Evil (-10): 0 (-2 while drunk)
*Lawful (+10)/Chaotic (-10): -2 (-5 while drunk)

Bio & Appearance: An ex-knight of Callan, Johnathan is a tall, muscular man with short, brown hair and brown eyes. He has basic training in fire magic, basic training in sword use, and is amazing with the bow, hence the nickname Sharpshot. He is also a major alcoholic. He was kicked out of the knights of Callan for killing two of his fellow knights when drunk. He is currently hunted by knights of Callan. In combat, when drunk, he usually charges into combat. When sober, he is actually pretty smart, not trying to engage in melee, instead using his bow. He will sometimes try to hunt down villains, but rarely, and almost only when sober.

Here's my villain.

Name: The Murderman

Age: Indeterminate

Race: Believed human

Gender: Believed Male

Alignment: Neutral Evil

Physical: He is about six feet tall, slim and very flexible. His agility is legendary and his strength far greater than his slight form would suggest. The only part of him not covered is his left hand which appears charred and blackened by fire and even now still smokes. Some say that his left hand is not his, but instead belonged to a long dead infernomancer, but this has never been confirmed.

Clothing: He wears loose gray clothing cut in a Middle Eastern fashion. His head is hooded and he wears a mirrored mask so that the last thing his victims see is themselves. He wears an amulet, two bracelets and two anklets of red gold that increase his speed and strength incredibly.

Occupation: Murderer.

Skills/Abilities: Extremely agile, fast and strong. Knows many martial arts and equally skilled with spear, bow or blade. His magic ability is completely taken up with concealment and illusion spells.

Resources: The Mirror Mask is a potent magical device that can hypnotize the unwary and the Jewels of War give him near supernatural strength and speed. Zebulon’s Hand can burn through steel. He carries a scimitar at his waist and numerous knives concealed on his person. He uses his spear as a walking stick and has a horn bow and quiver of arrows slung across his back. He carries other supplies and equipment on the back of a mule which he named Debbie for no readily apparent reason.

History: He is from no particular place, a wandering specter of murderous evil. He is not chaotic, acting only on impulse and feelings, but instead is governed by his implacable will. He kills not for money, nor for any religion or creed, but instead because it advances some insidious plan of his. And because he likes to. However, it seems that this plan calls for the deaths of many thousands of people, and he has done just that. He is a mass murderer of the highest caliber, an enemy of anyone he comes across.

He seems to delight only in the slaughter, and sometimes does grisly and horrible things to their bodies. No one he kills is ever found with a heart, and the few survivors of his depredations say that he eats them.

Personality: Cold as ice, and possessing an implacable will. He may be a man, but some say that there are rocks more human than he.

Special: He will not kill pregnant women or babies.

[[Just joined the forum. thought i'd bring up an old character of mine. He's a goof opponent for mage's simply because he's the guy you love to hate. He will do EVERY dirty trick available to kill any magic user.]]

Name: Arrant Skye aka "Cat's Grace Arrant" aka "The Arrant Mage-Bane"
Age: 36
Sex: Male
Race: Human
Alignment:
Good(0)/Evil(-10): -10
Lawful(+10)/Chaos(0): +10

Appearance: He appears in the form of a lithe and restless middle-aged man, whose eyes carry hundreds of years of murder, and a sinister grin that still gives the youth of a teenage marauder. At the hieght of six feet perfectly, one might find it odd that Arrant only wieghs one hundred and fifty-seven pounds. His hair his matted and shaggy, coarse brown, with what almost seem to be freckles of shades of color in his hair that only resemble scarlet ichor he drains from his victims. His body, while seemingly frail from his semi-visible ribcage, hides the tightly wound, and forcibly strong muscles perfectly. Scars gleam almost as if presented from years of fighting, with the exception of his feet and hands, which almost have a femine quality to the detail of attention to them. No scratches or marks, kept in tight shape and always cleaned thoroughly.

Arrant fights in solely in a tattered set of leather cloths, well worn and versitile, as to not impede his movements. For a kick of flair and style, Arrant always accompanies this dredge of pants with a fashionable black satin tie. Carefully tight-closed sandals adorn his murderer's feet, and slightly rusted iron bracers upon his wrists. At his side are two beautiful silver rapiers, set with elvish engravings upon their will crafted handles. Upon the jet black sheaths, reside to bottles, that if tipped would drip some liquid into the sheaths coating the blades.

Abilities: Arrant is a resistant. And highly resistant at that.

Arrant is an exemplerary swordsmen, having studied many styles. But unlike many swordsmen, he has no sense of honor or duty. He betrays, lies, poisons, cheats, steals, tricks, and backstabs anyone he needs to. He has no sense of rules and was once offered to join the Chosen, but refused because of his utter hatred for magic. he also has the grace of a cat, notably for falling high falls and landing with minor injuries.

Besides his devilish style and skill, Arrant's blades are of high-caliber. They are made of a special metal, which is resistant to magic, but not to the extent of Scarlatti. The wounds caused by these blades cna be magically healed. The iron bracers that Mr. Skye also wears are extremely resistant, but in a differnt fashion. They absorb and diffuse magic throughout, acting like a lightning rod for magic. The scripted runes on the handles of the blades allow only Arrant to hold them. If another should grab or even tough them, the blade itself would ignite in chaotic fire, which would not harm the blades, but burn even a fire elemental simply because of the Chaotic Fire would burn anything, even fire itself. Not enough to kill, but enough to drop the blades.

The vials of liquid that were mentioned contain a liquid ironiclly dubbed "Mage-Boom". The liquid, when spread on the blade, has violent reactions to magic, causing ALMOST ANY magical thing to create a magical detonation. This is attributed to, but not limited to: spells, magical items, and a magical creature's flesh, depending on the amount of magic used in creation of or magic controled by [such as golems].

Bio: Unfortunatly, Arran'ts story is not a complex one. Just a twisted one.

Arrant is a man fueled by his hatred of magic. Born into a family of mages, being resistant was hard on him as a child. Sent away to live with elves, he witnessed his first murder and became addicted instantly. The Blood. The Scream. The fading light in the person's eyes. It was better then sex. And then he saw what he wanted.

He saw magic as needless. A man can kill with just his bare hands. But incase that would fail, he had forged two blades and two bracers resistant, like him, so that one day he could slay all that was magical.

Taking a liking to a young elven alchemist, he soon married at age twenty. But his hidden passion had not been satisfied, until he saw his love's invention: a chemical that reacted violently to magic. Stealing the formula, and all the vials he fled the elven lands and returned home.

Lulling his parents and family into a false sense of security, he eased back into life. Forty days later, at the of the Callan Calender, he murdered his parents, his three sisters, and his baby brother in their sleep. Each one had their throat slit, and on each chest a different word carved.

"All Who Use Magic Must Die."

Taking any money he needs from those whom he kills, Arrant lives a poverish, but enjoyable life. A sadist, through and through. On his mind, to those who seek to read it is simply his creed: "Anyone who bears the strength of magic will be cut down by the blade through any means."
