| Hmmmm... 5 million for me for the rest of my life, 5 million to my church (if they'd accept it), and 20 million to cancer research. _________________

| You know they would. After all, money trumps morality. _________________

I doubt it. There are more important things than money, for us. If I got the money by a legitimate method (good/lucky investing), however, then it'd be fine. _________________

So wait, churches don't accept money that you won by gambling? I didn't know that. _________________

| I would use all that I needed to go to school. Then I'd probably do nothing with it. It'd sit in a savings account. I'd probably just go about life normally from there.
Eventually, I'd buy my own island. (Yeah.... Right...) |

| Step one: I'd make darn sure that all pertinant windfall taxes are paid (didn't Willy Nelson get screwed over because his accountant neglected to have the taxes due on his own lottery winnings paid?)
Step two: freak out.
Step three: Try to remember which payout method (lump sum or yearly inrements) actually gets me the greater bulk of my winnings. Assuming that they give me a choice...
Step four: freak out.
Step five: Set up two or more bank accounts for the money to go into, with one being a "mad money" account.
Step six: freak out.
Step seven: Buy a PS3, a house, a new car, a lot of games, and random stuff. Possibly even in that order...
Step eight: calm down - 'cause it's not good to be freaked out all the time. |

Time value of money - money now is worth more than money in the future (adjusting for inflation, of course). The lotto companies will account in an exorbent percentage that will greatly reduce your total winnings if you were to take it all at once, rather than just getting 1 mill per year (or so). Go with incremental payments. _________________

| You should never need more than a million a year. _________________ You're about to die. Scream if you must. |

QFT.
Though, I do think that it's false advertising to say you'll get twenty million, and give it over the course of several years. People, when they bought the ticket, expect to get all the money at once if they win, a deception that the company knew about but continued to allow. _________________
