That's the difference between CE and CS (Chaotic Stupid) Razz

Like they said in the other thread, proper CE is Riddick CE. Twisted Evil

I hold CN to be a Pure Individualist.

That is to say that on a philosophical level they only care about their freedom, but are generally indiffrent to others unless they interfere with this freedom. Not being good, they also feel no moral obligation to aid others who are in trouble, but may choose to do so if they feel like it.

I basically think of it this way:

Law v. Chaos = Conformism v. Idividualism
Good v. Evil = Societal welfare v. Self-interest

Thus, a CE character is an idividualist who is primarily motivated by self-intrest. You don't have to slaughter millions of innocents to be CE, you just have to wish to increase your freedom and ability to be yourself by gaining power at the expense of others.

Likewise, a LE character seeks power at other's expense because he wants a higher social station, or even because he thinks it will benefit the group as a whole.

All this talk about D&D is making me want to play. But like Marsco, I'd have no one to play with irl. I could possibly find some at one of the local game shops, but those people scare me. :P

Don't forget, grim, you can have a Good Aligned Character who doesn't think of societal welfare, but rather, welfare of world/environment/ or non society elements.

However, I do believe you are 99% correct in common gaming instances ^_^

That's still a society, KC... an NG druid is interested in natural society - the welfare of the ecosystem, interspecies balance on both plant and animal scale, et cetera - while a CG barbarian is interested in the welfare of his tribal society, and so on and so on.

You're really stretching the definition of society there, bud. But whatever it's still accepted is all I'm saying. ^_^

I used societal welfare fro lack of a better word. just like I'd rather use another word besides "conformist" for a law alignment, even though it is the best description of the ideology, because it has a negative connotation in American society.

societal-welfare in this context can mean the welfare of any group of living creatures, or even non-living ones (constructs, for example) over the welfare of the individual with the good alignment.
