PostSubject: Less off-topic, more on-topic? Please?   Tue 19 Feb - 23:20

I like this forum. I really do. What I don't like is the constant "thread derailing". A little derailing and off topic is okay, but you guys go on forever and ever. There IS something seriously wrong when a 6-page thread consists of 1 page on-topic-stuff and 5 pages off-topic-stuff.

Okay, so chitchat is chitchat and the rules can be rather loose, but I strongly dislike trying to follow a serious discussion only to be interrupted by several pages of utter nonsense.

Can we please do something about this?

I mean, why have moderators, if the moderators are just as insane and off-topic as everyone else? What's the use of moderators then? Or rules, even?

On-topicity is never necessary, except to people who take forums far too seriously.

This is why we allow no debate threads.

Man, if you think the derailment here is bad, you should have been here when the old regular members were here. :x

I personally do not mind, as long as it can go back to its original discussion (and it usually does). Also, we have this rule:

Quote:
Any threads that turn into flames (or start out as such) are to be immediately derailed into something entertaining.

BTW, no serious discussion is allowed here anymore. Check out the rules. This is only for general discussion.

But still...we ARE here to discuss, and it IS a little annoying when the discussions derails to much and doesn't quickly och easily revert to on-topic again.

Like for example...I tried to follow the "furries thread" but was more or less forced to read several pages of silly nonsense. I read it only in case there COULD be some serious posts hidden in the nonsense, but no.

r1nn: Off topic is okay, to a certain extent, but seriously, you guys are the worst off-topicers and derailers I have ever seen. Ever. And I'm 30 years old and have been using internet forums for about 10 years or so now...

Meh, well we get a prize than I suppose? While some serious discussion is okay, it tends to explode into either rants, drama, and what not. The police brutality thread is an example of serious bussiness that was closed because of debate. Also you should search the Due Ex Mommina Thread to see what serious discussion can lead to.

While serious discussion is nice, its also fun to be Chaotic.

You haven't seen this forum yet, have you ShadowWolf? It's younger than ours, but has grown significantly in the short time it's been around. And the amount of off topic posts put ours to shame =P

Ahrsljajl >< ARK! >< *dies inside* Now I'm going to be bothered about that person's identity all day ; ;

*bites nails* Watanabe or Takigawa... I'm fairly sure it's not Minami, the hair's too short... definitely not Shirota... bahh. >< I blame myself for not watching enough first gen stuff. Oh noes! What if Minami had shorter hair in the first ones! >O *runs to check* ... need to hear the voice... *rocks back and forth*

Oh noes! What if it's someone cosplaying buchou!? *angsts* *mumbles to self*

As for some on topic stuff... I personally do like some on topic-ness, but once it derails as long as it's not onto anything nasty I'm fairly okay with it. You find out some interesting stuff once it's derailed. XD I think the more you fight against thread derailing, the more it will derail. ^.^;

Off-topic makes this forum interesting and entertaining. I wouldn't visit as frequently if everyone was very much on the rails.

Anyone saw that cooking show with the man?

I wouldn't post here if this place became Gearbox, or any other formally sweet forum.

Serious forums suck. I come here to hang out.

If I want to be frustrated I would try PVPing on my shaman.

I don't mind the derailment most of the time. Just in the Plot Discussion doe sit bother me, and even then it's either infrequent or terribly amusing.

o-o But these wombat fights are among the most horrifying of battles ever to take place on a forum!
