I am using my computer. Believe it or not, my excursions are not as a show of dropping out. But more of show of, I am connected with these people. I do intend to fully drop out one day. I am tired of working a pointless job there is nothing in it for me, and I deal with idiots all day.

My video card, and My 1.5 gigs are RAM, totally out of a Dumpster. Viva La capitalism.

I'm reading the Wikipedia article on the Real ID Act, and it really doesn't look so bad.

Most states I've lived in require most of that stuff to get a driver's license anyway.

Also, it says that the bill has already been signed into law (three years ago), but the provisions of the bill won't go into effect until 2011.

Am I missing something?

EDIT: Also, whose dumpsters are you digging through? I could use a new computer, and I have NEVER seen a good computer in a dumpster.

Okay, Reitrunner, as far as I see it, this is what you offer up as an anarchist society (so you can correct me if I'm wrong):

You feel the the people shoudl rule as a collective. that is, everybody basically decides what they want as a group, and they do it. Those who don't like it leave. Private property and basic rights are secured by private action, everybody who wants to fights to defend this.

That's, of course, a very breif summation and skips much of the ideology involved, but I think this describes the end result soncisely.

Here's the problem: what if I, as an individual, do not want to abide by the rule of the group, but would rather do so than go off on my own (perhaps because doing so is risky).

In the system you propose, let's say that hypothetically the collective determined that rape wasn't bad, and then enforced the right of individuals within the collective to rape whomever they wished, such as by putting to detah the rapiees if they refused. Since it's a collective, if a weaker minority were to be on the receving end of this... say the rule only applies to single women under 25... they have no way of stopping this except by arming themselves and fighting against the collective, which would ensure their deaths. Now being raped is better than being dead, so on the whole most of these girls would go along with it rather than die.

Now, I personally feel that this is wrong. These girl's ability to enjoy the very freedoms your system proposes is hindered by the same system. That is, if enough people wish to impose their will on another group in an anarchist collective, there is no way to stop them short of imposing your will on them.

Basically Reit, I'm saying that your system ignores a very important factor in the social equation: human nature. Humans, by nature, feel the need to imporve their lot (whether to ensure reproduction or to ensure survival), and have shown in the past that they are willing to do so at the expense of others. Unless every member of your anarchist society is one of Niche's Supermen, it will fail, becuase human beings will... well... be human and thus will prefer to preserve themselves over others on most occasions.

Besides, if you see two people struggling over a purse, a man and a woman, and you whack the man on the head with your stick to save the woman's purse, how do you know that the purse is actually hers? For all you know, the man was savign his wife's purse. That's why laws exist, to sort out the exceptions that the normal human being wouldn't handle well.

So, while your idea is beautiful, it is impractical.

It's sad this happens in places; the kind of people who are permitted to take the profession of police officer.

This is not everywhere and not every police officer though.

Hrm, your words come off as kind of preachy Reit. Though I am of the opinion that anarchism could never truly work. At least on a large scale. These small collectives? Sure. Insignificant rabble. Little impact on the world at large. Though I suppose I'll avoid rehashing all the mentionings of human nature an whatnot.

My own personal opinion is that the best we could hope for is a truly benevolent dictatorship. Unfortunately problems would arise once the benevolent one dies as there likely won't be an equally benevolent successor.

Stick with capitalism, it works, it's mostly fair and it allows for a democratic voting system.
