I don't understand why people hate 1337 =/ It's geeky and therefore it's quite awesome. Furthermore I use it frequently in real life (that is to say, words such as "pwn", "uber", "woot", "newb", "leet", etc.)

Nick and I celebrate 1337th posts and 1337th threads all the time at his forum XD

I can't speak for anyone else, but I think that a forum is a form of communication and thus the rules of language should be applied. It just grates when I see basic words deliberately misspelled.

And then there's the fact that I just can't read it. ;^.^

Yeah, ironic thing is, I use 1337 words more in real life than I do when I'm typing things.

(pwnt is a common phrase among us. Uber, woot, and newb are NOT 1337. I was using Uber before I'd ever been on the internets (It's GERMAN people), woot is a cheer of joy, and newb is just a shortening of newbie, which also existed before the internet. It just wasn't used as often.)

newb (yes, they're all different. I don't care that they're spoken. They're different :P)

omfg (both of these are pronounced as one word, as opposed to separate letters)
wtf (also pronounced as one word)

1337-type words I use in typing on forums and such:
1337 (only occasionally though...mostly in discussions such as this)
...I think I might occasionally type "wtf"...

Also, pwn has the same DEFINITION as own, but a different connotation. It's a little more derogatory.

I prefer to say I whooped on someone's ass though...it just feels more satisfying than that ambiguous little three letter word.

Edit: As far as things like omg and wtf go...hell, I just scream the whole phrase when I'm that pissed.

I know well of the different words n00b and newb. I've spent a good while explaining them to idiots.

I generally don't bother, as it's much more fun to be creative and make people laugh at your insults.

I've discovered that using douche- as a prefix for something makes it that much better. Examples of insults I've thrown at people:

douchetard
douchemonger
douchenozzle
douchewad
douchenut
douchelicker
douchenard (don't ask)
douchenoodle

...the list goes on. So much more interesting than these so-called 1337 insults.

I do agree that pwn can be used in different ways...but pwnt is still my favorite.

I still say that Gilgamesh cannot catch a cookie before it is thrown.
