So, I had my first day at a new job today.

It's on the other side of the city, a rather large city, so it takes me roughly an hour of tough, fast biking to get there... And when I do, I'm fucking tired and beat already, THEN there's the work...

my god..

This work is atrocious. I get paint covered all over me, I have to haul 2x6 by 2x6, big huge, heavy splintery ones, that ravage my hands to ribbons, and worst of all.... The shittiest supervisor I've seen yet.

He doesn't ever [repeat: EVER] acknowledge that you've done something good, and if you do something the SLIGHTEST bit wrong, he jumps on you and verbally abuses you to the point that you feel like you're left feeling like a clump of shit that he just stepped on. Really, I was brushing one 2x6, and I was holding the brush just the littlest bit wrong. and he came up to me, pulled the brush out of my hands, cussing and saying 'Where the hell did you come from, the dumpster?'. I swear, if it wasn't illegal he would have punched us for walking funny...

Oh yes, now imagine Eleven hours of that. Sure, there's a half hour break, but we're not allowed to take it until at least seven hours into our shift... And after working those eleven hours [I'm at work eleven and a half, technically] I have to spend an hour biking home on legs that are just plain not up to more work like that... Plus, the pay is NOT worth anything NEAR what one has to go through. If I made twice of what I did, I would consider staying, but... I can make more money at certain McDonalds than this place... and McDonalds is piss-easy... Plus the the distance..... I'd rather starve in my basement room for a month, personally.

Now, I'm only taking this job to please my brother. He worked there for five years, and he rose through the ranks until he was one of the bigwigs, and he said that working there made him a real man. To be frank... I don't want to be huge and muscular like my brother. All that muscle would only slow me down, and I hate going slow. I'd rather keep my thin, nerdy figure than get huge like my brother... ugh...

I'm vastly tempted to phone in tomorrow and say 'Screw you guys. I ain't workin' here again.' and find something closer, better, and not so LOOOONNNNGGGGG. I might be tempted to stay, if I was in absolute dire need of money, but really, I got enough to last me a few months, if I'm smart. This... This is just not it.

Not work that leaves me looking like this:

That's paint, I swear, even though it looks like shit.

*coughs*

Sorry to go off on a rampant tirade like that, guys..... I feel better after, though.

I've never worked in anything but fast food and retail so I can't really relate to your situation but it sounds 'not fun.' I have had a boss that went off at me for the slightest thing I did wrong and it really ruins the job.

If you've got the financial freedom to do so, bail. Bail fast, bail hard, and tell your brother that it just ain't for you. Find another job, one that's somewhere between tolerable and enjoyable, and have at it.

I fully intend to do so, Freemage..... I have enough to last me a few onths, if I spend smart... Though that last bit of peer pressure removed all doubt. =)

My thanks, everyone. As always, your input is very appreciated.

*hugs* my dear friend, I feel horrid for you. =/

Just quit. Work isn't so scarce that you need to go through that kind of stuff.

*clings to swift with a hug* Aww, you really need to just tell your supervisor to shove it and leave that place. Plus if you lost your "thin, nerdy figure" I think I would have to cry a little. ^^

Well... huh... except baby-sitting (which I sucked at since I was 15 at the time) I never had real work. So I'm the last person on Earth you should listen to, but I'm gonna rant anyway.

If you're doing that only for your brother, SCREW HIM. For my 22 years of existence I lived to try to make my family happy in any way I could, but it turns out the only things making me happy in this damned world are things that make them freak out and downright ashamed of me.

So meh, do what you want, but that job just doesn't seem to be right for you when you're willing to work anywhere else.

God, that sounds like the job from hell. Give it a few more days, and if it doesn't get better, just quit. Not even making your brother happy is worth going through that. : (

A job isn't worth haveing if you are going to wake up and dread going in. This isn't the same as "I don't feel like going to work today"...this is a matter of your personal happiness. If you can't stand the place, get out fast. There are other places.

I say just don't do it...that's miserable. That's worse than when I worked as a dishwasher for a local tavern, and THAT sucked. I worked there for a month and a couple weeks, and waited about a month and a week too long to quit.

I finally had a breakdown one night after dealing from some shit from some stupid little asshole who thought he was better than me because he worked in that shit factory for longer...so I left the night's load of dishes in the sink, punched out, handed my timecard to my boss (who was out on the floor playing poker) and told him to schedule someone else to cover my shift the next day, that it wasn't worth the money.

Don't let that happen to you.

heheheh.....

So, if I leave now, I MIGHT be able to make it in for my shift on time.

But... I'm still in my PJ's..... no lunch made......

Last night, me and my brother talked it over, and he recommended that I stick with it for a week, at least. If this Dave guy, the hardass anal-retentive supervisor, doesn't improve, then make a formal complaint to Jack, the big head-honcho guy, and if that doesn't work, my brother, who has a long-standing reputation there, will come in and punch Dave's lights out, which I would PAY GOOD MONEY TO SEE.

But... It's not worth it to me, so I explained that to my brother, and he said that if I don't go in, that he wouldn't blame me. He's had bosses like that before, and they just make everything terrible. Sure, he toughed it out, but that's my brother, not me.

So.... no worries...... Ah, unemployment.... Thy shackles be so lusted on the odd occasion...

Especially here in the Alberta area..... Can't walk a block without seeing at least two HELP WANTED signs.

Work at a coffee shop.

Oddly enough, I have a good amount of skill in pouring drinks... I may be hella accident prone, but when there's drinks at stake, my body focuses, calms down, and does things slowly, but effectively.
That, and it'd sure give me a pick-me-up to see bunches of boozehounds come in, talking about how bad their life is... heh...

well in the know of the power of hugs. =P
Oh my, it's against my very nature to have a girl cry! I must do all I can to avoid getting muscular!
*sits around until Monday*

HOLD IT!!

*pauses and thinks a moment*

Yes.... There's actually a day-care in walking distance from here, and for some reason, kids love me. When there's a bunch of them around me, I get all silly and stuff, I start acting like Vash when he's being shot at, and the kids laugh, and I get along with them great, but yet I still can be serious when needed, and know how to deal with kids when they need to be calmed down and stuff.... hm.... Babies and toddlers and young'uns alike, I know how to work with and keep them happy and tend to their needs..... heh...

Which is what my brother told me to do..... And while he is VERY experienced in the work field, and I'm not, I gotta say, that HELP WANTED sign at Arby's is lookin' way better now... [plus, I'd love some kinda discount on their food, some of the best stuff ever, <3 Cordon Bleu burger]

Oh wow, washing dishes sounds WAY easier than this job.... At least my hands won't get SPLINTERS ALL OVER.

.........

Oh wow, in the time it took to write this, I'm late for work.

[holy shit, I just typed out the url to that image in my 'bucket from memory and it came out... SCORE]

Awwww man, that job really sounds horrible. <hugs>

Kinda know how you feel, because I was treated like crap in the first two jobs I've had so far from my coworkers and managers...

I hope you are able to find another job you like, though. Don't give up! D:

Hmm... well, if the job becomes unavoidable, take a page out of the Sith philosophy and use it to make yourself stronger.
